Job Overview

Step outside the cubicle and embark on a leadership journey where you will gain experience developing teams, executing merchandising strategies, and consulting key business partners on strategic initiatives to drive sales growth. In the Store Management Executive Development Program, you'll learn what it takes to be a successful store manager at Macy's, and you'll do it in a position of high visibility and substantial responsibility.

The Macy's Store Management Executive Development Program (EDP) is a series of rotational experiences designed to develop the leadership, strategic planning, and business management skills necessary to run a multi-million-dollar retail business and enable rapid career progression. Through personalized learning experiences and on-the-job training, you'll develop a global and strategic view of the retail landscape and prepare to rise through the ranks of a Fortune 500 company.

Placement for this program is available in major market stores nationwide, and the 2025 program begins August 18th.

What You Will Do

Throughout the approximately 2-year program, you will receive training on how to drive sales through effective leadership, develop merchandising strategies, and learn new initiatives that impact our stores. The rotational aspect of the program allows you to move through various leadership roles within the Stores Organization, and you will be paired with both a peer mentor and a Senior Leader mentor to support your development through the entirety of the program as well as providing continuous constructive feedback to foster your growth.

Sales and Customer Experience



  • Begin to build the foundational skills necessary to service our customers, lead a team, and drive sales. These skills are critical to increasing customer loyalty and providing an exceptional, friendly shopping experience, as well as developing high performing colleagues.
  • Coach and develop a team of approximately 10 to 20 associates, helping to create a customer-focused shopping environment.
  • Drive sales and profit through a range of activities, including hiring & developing talent, helping to run the daily operation of our stores, and empowering your team to deliver on our customer service promise.
  • Analyze business trends and make decisions to drive sales growth in partnership with your team.


Operations and Visual Merchandising



  • Learn what it takes to make our stores easy and exciting for our customers to shop, from receiving the product to ensuring it is floor-ready.
  • Build skills in store operations and merchandising, learn more about what it takes to drive sales and profit, and continue to hone your leadership skills.
  • Learn to lead all merchandise movement, set-up, and visual execution activities for the store.
  • Function as an integral part of understanding and planning merchandising initiatives to drive a business.
  • Drive and exceed sales goals by developing and executing strategies while determining new business growth opportunities.
  • Ensure the accuracy of promotional presentation including visual signage, key item placement, and seasonal fashion trend statements.


Business Administration



  • Get direct experience with 'big picture' human resources & talent management functions for your store, including interviewing, hiring, staffing, and scheduling - everything it takes to ensure the store runs smoothly.
  • Continue to build your skills in customer service, store operations, and leadership, and get ready to take on a leadership role of your own.
  • Learn to lead the essential activities and colleagues that drive At Your Service and stores business processes that allow Macy's Stores to successfully run.
  • Manage store operations and administrative functions such as budgets and cash office functions.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities

Strong Business Acumen: Capable of executing plans and strategies, with a curiosity about developing a modern retail business.

Who You Are



  • First things first, you will need a bachelor's degree from an accredited university by the time you start with us and a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA is preferred. All majors will be considered for this opportunity.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
