POSITION SUMMARY: The Pharmacy Supply Chain and Operations Pharmacist is responsible for managing pharmaceutical supply chain operations at Boston Medical Center. The role focuses on optimizing medication inventory, containing costs, and drug shortage management, while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The pharmacist will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to enhance operational efficiency, oversee medication dispensing out of the central pharmacy, and maintain strong vendor relationships. Position: Pharmacy Clinical Specialist, Supply Chain and Operations Department: Inpatient Pharmacy Schedule: Full Time ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES: Key Responsibilities:
- Manage pharmaceutical supply chain operations, including medication inventory management, cost control, and drug shortage mitigation and management. This individual will lead drug shortage meetings and present drug shortage information and updates at the inpatient staff meeting.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external vendors, negotiating contracts, ensuring timely deliveries, and addressing any supply chain disruptions.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams such as operations, clinical, finance, compliance, central supply, ambulatory care clinics, informatics, nursing, providers, and external vendors to ensure smooth supply chain operations and optimal medication availability.
- Oversee and optimize automated dispensing systems (e.g., carousel), ensuring regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.
- Implement strategies to manage and prevent drug shortages, working with internal and external stakeholders to identify alternatives and ensure continuous medication availability.
- Conduct data analysis to monitor supply chain performance, identify cost-saving opportunities, and improve medication utilization.
- Maintain and enforce compliance with healthcare regulations, including drug safety, reporting, and security requirements.
- Ensure efficient use of resources and cost-effective practices throughout the pharmaceutical supply chain.
- Support training initiatives for clinical and operational staff on supply chain processes and systems and new members of the supply chain team.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations within the pharmacy supply chain team.
JOB REQUIREMENTS Qualifications:
- Required: Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited or Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy and Massachusetts pharmacist license; preferred: three years of experience in pharmacy practice or completion of a PGY1 pharmacy residency.
- Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical supply chain management and operations, cost management, drug shortage prevention, and inventory control.
- Proficiency with Epic, Pyxis, and/or Omnicell required.
- Preferred familiarity with Infor, Sentry, QuicksortRx, and Cencora platforms.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrate ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and handle multiple responsibilities.
- Demonstrate willingness to learn new concepts and processes.
- Possess or able to obtain nationally recognized pharmacy supply chain certificate.

- Strong problem-solving skills, especially in drug shortage management and operational inefficiencies.
- Ability to manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts to ensure efficient and cost-effective supply chain operations.
