Salary/Grade: EXS/6

Target hiring range for this position will be between $56,782-$60,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Job Summary

Provides expertise in data management, quality assurance, analysis and reporting. Establishes data accuracy and validity derived from a variety of systems. Performs data analysis using statistical techniques. Researches and analyzes information using multiple databases and creates reports of data and results. Assists in the preparation and delivery of decision support reports to both internal and external customers. Performs social-behavioral research by overseeing SOQIR's data collection and organization; administering questionnaires; following protocols; collecting, compiling, tabulating, and/or processing responses; gathering information; and/or assisting in the preparation of material for inclusion in reports. Completes all activities by strictly following Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and all relevant current local, state, and federal laws, regulations, guidance, policy and procedure developed by the NU Institutional Review Board (IRB), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), and the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH). Dr. Cindy Veldhuis at the Institute for Sexual Minority Health and Wellbeing is seeking a data manager for two women's same-gender relationships and LGBTQ family formation studies. The incumbent will oversee the organization's data management processes, ensuring data quality, security, compliance with regulations, and facilitating effective data-driven decision-making. They manage data storage, retrieval, and ensure that data is accessible to key study personnel. This position is contingent upon receipt of funding. May co-author scientific papers for presentation and publication.

Specific Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning

  • Ensures data is properly collected, organized, stored, and secured.
  • Monitors and improves data accuracy and reliability.
  • Cleans data, creates codebooks, help team members analyze data.
  • Manages data processes with any external funders.

Administration

  • Designs and prepares documentation for qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
  • Oversees and manages data collection, maintenance, analysis, and evaluation that will be used in grant submissions, presentations and publications.
  • Assists PI in reviewing, analyzing, interpreting, summarizing, formatting, editing, and preparing tables, graphs, charts, progress, and final reports, etc.
  • Ensures data integrity and quality.
  • Ensures adherence to ethical guidelines in line with Northwestern University IRB and national Institutes for Health standards.
  • Implements quality assurance processes to ensure the accuracy of data.
  • Prepares reports summarizing data collection progress and challenges faced during data collection.
  • Ensures de-identification of data and security of data.
  • Contributes to defining methodology and documentation standards, periodically reviewing them to integrate appropriate practices.
  • May teach team members how to conduct basic analyses.
  • May be involved in study activities, such as interviewing and recruitment.

Development

  • Develops and implements data management policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Works with PI to create surveys and/or other data collection tools.
  • Develops codebooks for quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Create codes and integrates codes from other data users.

Performance

  • Completes data cleaning and organizes data files for analysis.
  • Reviews data and identifies quality issues.
  • Processes and reports data efficiently.
  • Adheres to research study timelines and milestones.
  • Communicates effectively with research team.
  • Identifies and resolves data-related issues.

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as computer science, information technology, or related field; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • Experience managing qualitative and quantitative datasets.
  • 1+ years' experience on a research study is required.
  • Must complete NU's IRB CITI training before interacting with any participants and must recertify every 3 years.

  • Demonstrated experience working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals.
  • Experience managing large and complex datasets including longitudinal data and dyadic data.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Black, Indigenous, and other people of color (BIPOC).
  • Demonstrated experience working in women's health and wellbeing.
  • Interest in women's health, transgender/nonbinary people's health, and research on LGBTQIA+ couples, families, and research.
  • Experience developing large surveys.

Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)

  • Willingness to expand skill set and improve.
  • Ability to write scientifically for dissemination activities.
  • Familiarity with data collection and management software, such as Qualtrics.
