We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Software Engineer, who has a proven track record in Data Engineering, to join our innovative team in the medical device industry. This role requires a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of automated data pipelines, AWS cloud infrastructure, databases, workflow engines supported by a solid applied understanding of software engineering best practices. The ideal candidate will have a software engineering expertise with at least 7 years of experience in data engineering, experience in the medical devices field is a plus. Proficiency in Python and a proven track record of leading projects to successful completion are essential.
Primary Duties:
  • Design, develop, and manage quality, robust, secure, scalable, highly available, and dynamic solutions to drive business objectives.
  • Lead the architecture and implementation of advanced cloud-based data engineering solutions, leveraging AWS technologies and best practices.
  • Manage and optimize data pipelines, ensuring timely and accurate data availability for analytics and machine learning applications.
  • Oversee the administration and performance tuning of databases and workflow engines.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., product management, IT, software engineering, data science, micro-biology) to define data requirements, integrate systems, and implement data governance and security policies.
  • Mentor junior engineers and oversee the team's development efforts, promoting best practices in coding, architecture, and data management.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in data engineering, cloud services, and the medical device industry to drive innovation and competitive advantage, in collaboration with senior member of the department.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree with 7+ years of Software Engineering experience, focusing on Data Engineering and 7 years of Python programming and software engineering principles
    • OR PHD with 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, focusing on Data Engineering and 5 years of Python programming and software engineering principles
  • 5 + years of database management principles.
  • 5 + years of experience in working with Postgres and Snowflake databases.
  • 5 + years of experience in developing and maintaining ETL pipelines in a cloud environment.
  • 5 + years of experience in Unit Testing required
  • Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to organize, analyze, and disseminate information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication and task management skills.
  • Full fluency (verbal and written) of the English language required
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, research-oriented group with several ongoing concurrent projects

Preferred:

  • Experience in PySpark is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with AWS services like EC2, ECS, RDS, S3, Lambda, EMR, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, IAM is preferred.
  • Experience in ETL tools like DBT or Databricks preferred.
  • Experience in software development is preferred.
  • Experience with machine learning algorithms and data modeling techniques preferred
The estimated salary range for this role based in California is between $180,000 - $215,000. This role is eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and individual performance per bioMerieux's bonus program. This range may differ from ranges offered for similar positions elsewhere in the country given differences in cost of living. Actual compensation within this range is determined based on the successful candidate's experience and will be presented in writing at the time of the offer.
