Position Summary
The Department of Surgery at the
University of New Mexico (UNM) School of Medicine (SOM) is currently seeking a
qualified candidate at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor of Surgery
to serve in the role of Division Chief for Urologic Surgery
. Reporting to the Chair of Surgery, the
incoming Chief will be responsible for partnering with the Chair to develop
clinical programs and expand research while focusing on academic success in a
collaborative environment. The Division
Chief will oversee clinical service, patient care, research and scholarship,
education and mentorship. The growth and
development of faculty within the division is a priority for the department and
offers tremendous opportunity for the new division chief. The incumbent will have a proven record of
accomplishment in leadership, clinical excellence, patient care, education, and
mentorship in order to develop the Division in all of its mission areas.

The UNM Division of Urology currently
consists of fellowship-trained and specialized urologists within the fields of
oncology, pediatrics, GU soft tissue reconstruction, robotics, reconstructive
urology and renal transplantation. Surgeons
within the division provide full urologic care to a variety of benign and
malignant conditions. This position
would work closely with the residency program. The UNM Division of Urology and Department of
Surgery boast a robust infrastructure of services and resources to help achieve
academic goals, and leadership opportunities are available.

UNM serves a large, medically complex
population and is a consultative resource for the State of New Mexico and the
Four Corners region of the Southwest United States. Outpatient surgical
services are provided through the UNM Hospital, UNM Sandoval Regional Medical
Center, and the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC), the only National
Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Cancer Center in a 500-mile radius. The
UNM Health Science Center (HSC) is the largest academic health complex in the
state of New Mexico and is the only Level 1 trauma center. It is the state's only site for urologic
residency training. Located on the
University of New Mexico campus in beautiful Albuquerque, NM, the HSC combines
its four mission areas - education, research, patient care and community
outreach - to provide New Mexicans with the highest level of health care.

New Mexico is known as the Land of
Enchantment; the City of Albuquerque is a beautiful city with mountain to the
east and a mesa to the west. It is an
ideal basecamp for a host of year-round outdoor activities. The State of New Mexico is multicultural and
diverse with excellent local cuisine, breathtaking sunsets, multiple cultural
and historic sites, lakes, rivers, deserts and mountains.

This is a benefits eligible position. UNM provides a comprehensive package of

through the tuition remission and dependent education programs.
