Responsibilities

We are looking for a seasoned, outcome-oriented Network Engineering professional to spearhead the development and execution of sophisticated, secure networking systems for Department of Defense (DoD) research initiatives. This role entails architecting, setting up, and fine-tuning network hardware and software, resolving connectivity challenges, and safeguarding the integrity of network infrastructure and the sensitive information it houses. The ideal candidate is a skilled leader with exceptional expertise in technical troubleshooting, consistently providing reliable and high-performance network solutions tailored to the complexities of DoD research environments. They ensure that networking systems uphold the highest levels of security, reliability, and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operation, configuration, and support of large-scale enterprise IT networks with 1,000 or more users, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security.
  • Configure and maintain network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and wireless access points using new and native technologies.
  • Implement and manage firewalls, VPNs, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) to safeguard networks from unauthorized access and cyber threats
  • Configure and diagnose issues in network routing and security protocols, including BGP, OSPF, VPN, and IPSec, to maintain seamless connectivity Manage and support Unix operating systems, including but not limited to Redhat, Suse, and Rocky, to ensure system stability and efficiency.
  • Utilize testing and validation tools such as signal generators, spectrum analyzers, signal analysis meters, time domain reflectometers (TDR), and cable scanners to diagnose and resolve network issues.
  • Deploy and integrate security and vulnerability analysis tools such as ISS, NetRanger, and nmap to strengthen network defenses and ensure system integrity.
  • Conduct regular assessments to identify vulnerabilities and implement corrective measures to maintain a secure IT environment.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of network configurations, security procedures, and troubleshooting activities for compliance and future reference.
  • Work closely with the Government customers and cross-functional IT teams to align network configurations with organizational goals, requirements and emerging technologies.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • BS 10-12, MS 8-10, PhD 5-7 with a BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, System Engineering with a minimum of 10 years experience with large enterprise Information Technology (IT) networks
  • Proven experience designing and implementing LAN/WAN protocols and technologies such as BGP, OSPF, secure VPNs
  • Experience in designing and implementing multi-protocol networks (e.g., IPv4, IPv6)
  • Proficiency in network monitoring and analysis tools like Wireshark, SolarWinds, nmap or Nagios
  • Knowledge and experience using Linux - Redhat, CENTOS, SUSE
  • A demonstrated proficiency in the use of signal generators, spectrum analyzers, signal analysis meters, time domain reflectometers (TDR) and cable scanners.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and software-defined networking (SDN)
  • Must have and maintain a current/active Top Secret/SCI clearance.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with emerging technologies like quantum-resistant cryptography, or advanced SD-WAN solutions.
  • Scripting and automation skills (e.g., Python, PowerShell) to enhance network efficiency.
  • Understanding of compliance standards (e.g., PCI-DSS, GDPR, HIPAA) for network security.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud

Equal Pay Act

This is the projected compensation range for this position. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
