Manager Financial Planning

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Finance for BMCAP, the Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and management of the financial planning team at Boston Medical Center's Community Physician Organization. This role involves coordinating and executing Hospital's financial planning activities, including budgeting, forecasting, long-term planning, and monthly close reporting. In partnership with senior leadership, the Manager will identify, develop, and implement short-term and long-term process improvements within the scope of the FP&A team.
The Manager will supervise and manage Financial Planning Department team analysts, ensuring the development and maintenance of ongoing financial management reporting. This will include mentoring and performance management. This position is a crucial leadership role within the Finance organization, requiring exceptional attention to detail, the ability to summarize key issues, and the capacity to influence leaders across the System.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

Budgeting and Forecasting:


  • In partnership with the system and physician organization, manage the annual budget process to ensure alignment with hospital goals.
  • Advise operational leaders on budgetary requirements and ensure alignment with hospital goals.
  • Monitor budget performance and identify variances, recommending corrective actions as necessary.
  • Identify improvements in budgeting processes and systems to increase efficiency and accuracy.

Financial Analysis:


  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic planning and operational decisions.

Strategic Financial Planning:


  • Assist in the development long-term financial strategies aligned with the hospital's mission and objectives.
  • Identify and recommend short-term and long-term strategic plans for process improvement within the FP&A team

Reporting:


  • Prepare comprehensive financial reports for senior management, the Board of Directors, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, adhering to relevant regulations and standards.
  • Lead monthly leadership reporting process, including communicating detailed analyses and presentations to hospital leadership

Team Leadership:


  • Directly supervise a team of financial analysts, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Acts as a resource for team members, helps solve complex problems
  • Train Financial Analysts on departmental policies and procedures
  • Lead performance management reviews for a team of Financial Analysts
  • Promote collaboration and effective communication within the finance team and across other departments.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, engineering or a related field required; MBA preferred

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

None required; Certified Public Account (CPA) or Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP) preferred.

EXPERIENCE:


  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in financial planning and analysis, consulting, or strategy, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of supervisory responsibility

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs):


  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
  • Proficient in financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting techniques.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Power Point.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with a track record of developing high-performing teams.
