What Your Job Will Be Like: The Applied Optical and Plasma Science Department is seeking an R&D Post-Doctoral Appointee supporting development of high-throughput, synthetic microstructure generation concepts for accelerated design of advanced materials and the advancement of artificial intelligence and machine learning approaches to efficiently design and control experiments and map process-structure relationships. Contributing to team efforts in publishing research results and supporting Sandia's mission areas is a critical aspect of this position. About Our Team: The Applied Optical and Plasma Sciences department 1865 operates as a nexus of multidisciplinary experts developing new capabilities to explore fundamental science questions leading to Mission-driven applications. The team's range of expertise encompass experimental, modeling and simulation, and process development over topics as diverse as material interactions and characterization, optical diagnostic development, plasma science, RF signatures, and thermal performance of materials and interfaces. Much of the work entails creating new tools and capabilities, e.g. data analytics, experimental, or model/simulation, to measure these phenomena. Departmental personnel lead and collaborate on teams with organizations and sponsors across multiple Centers and Divisions. Posting Duration: This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the 'posting date'. Position Information: This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment. Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
