The Medical Assistant II Certified provides team-based patient care as directed by the Provider and according to standard plans of care appropriate to the patient's condition, needs, and/or age. The daily care provided varies based on the specialty and practice size. Working under moderate supervision, this role provides support to nursing, lab, clerical, and Physician staff to facilitate positive patient outcomes and care. This role also is cross trained to alternate positions, sites, and specialties to support the practice in the front office, check-out, scheduling, and laboratory as needed. Precepts newly hired medical assistants and medical assistant students, providing guidance and support during their training.
Qualified observer for clinical competencies. Organizes and teaches annual educational presentations to staff when requested by leadership.
Leads and organizes daily huddles, facilitating communication and coordination among the clinic staff.
Leads quality or process improvement projects for the clinic as requested by leadership.
Manages the clinic's supply and medication ordering, ensuring that all necessary items are available.
Enters data, such as vital signs and implements the plan of care as directed by the Provider.
Implements protocols/standing orders based on patient complaint or reason for visit.
Performs 12-lead EKGs, select respiratory care procedures, other assigned patient care and may assist providers with specialty procedures for which adequate training has been provided and for which competencies have been demonstrated.
Administers oral and parenteral medications including immunizations, controlled substances, therapeutic injections, skin tests and treatments, and other treatment modalities according to specified policies and procedures and medical assisting standards, under the direction of supervising physicians.
Completes prior authorizations for medications as needed and communicates physician prescriptions to pharmacies by phone and fax as needed.
Provides accurate, complete, and timely documentation of all medical assistant procedures in the medical record.
Communicates patient condition, questions, and concerns to nursing staff and physician in order to triage and respond to messages appropriately.
Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:
Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Preferred: Medical Assistant Program

EXPERIENCE:
Required: 2 years' work experience as Certified Medical Assistant
Preferred: SPICE Training, Fit-Test Training, Member of professional organization eg AAMA, experience leading quality or process improvement projects, experienced trainer, experienced in practice front office roles.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Required:
Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA)/Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required from one of the following: American Associate of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Allied Health - RMA(AAH), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), National Healthcareer Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (RMA), National Healthcare Worker's Association (NHCWA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA), American Medical Certification Association (AMCA).

BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider

Preferred: Advanced Certification in addition to BLS (ACLS, PALS, etc)

**Participation in a clinical orientation, competency evaluation, and ability to pass a clinical skills assessment and medication administration test within ninety (90) days of hire, and within 3 attempts.**

Medical Assistant Clinical Ladder Requires ongoing demonstration of competency validation to remain in the Medical Assistant II Certified role. Refer to the Clinical Ladder Assessment for a list to select five items annually. These are documented throughout the year as part of annual evaluation.
