Johnson Controls is seeking a skilled Backup and Storage Administrator/Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing diverse enterprise storage technologies (SAN, NAS) and backups, optimizing backup/storage solutions that meet the organization's data management needs. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and security of backup/storage environments while supporting operational initiatives aligned with business objectives. Support diverse backup and storage solutions (DELL EMC, IBM Storage, Isilon ..etc) including SAN, NAS, and object storage systems. Collaborate with Engineering team and work in a DevOps mode to achieve organization goals. Regular maintenance of backup/storage systems and infrastructure, ensuring high availability and reliability. Implement best practices for backup/storage management, including provisioning, monitoring, and performance tuning. Analyze current and future backup/storage capacity needs, forecasting growth and planning for resource allocation. Continuously monitor storage utilization and performance metrics, optimizing configurations for efficiency. Implement security best practices for backup/storage environments, including encryption, access controls, and compliance with industry standards. Perform periodical assessments to identify vulnerabilities and ensure adherence to security policies. Provide support for backup/storage-related issues, troubleshooting and resolving complex problems. Collaborate with IT teams to address cross-functional challenges and improve overall system reliability. Maintain comprehensive documentation for backup/storage architecture, configurations, and operational procedures. Share knowledge and best practices with team members, providing training and mentorship as needed. Stay current with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in backup/storage solutions and data management. Evaluate new tools and technologies to enhance storage performance, reliability, and operational efficiency. Support the current backup environment and recovery strategies and ensure data integrity and availability. Conduct regular testing of disaster recovery plans and provide support for the overall DR exercises/rehearsals from Backup/Storage Standpoint.
What you will need
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 1-3 years of experience in backup/storage administration Proven experience with various storage technologies, including SAN, NAS, and cloud storage solutions. Strong knowledge of Backup/Storage Operations. Strong knowledge of storage protocols (e.g., iSCSI, NFS, CIFS, Fibre Channel) and management tools. Experience with backup and recovery solutions (e.g., Veeam, CommVault, NetBackup). Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and their integration with storage systems.
Preferred
Experience working with Legacy Storage Technologies such as VMAX, VNX & HP XP, Isilon, Unity, NetApp, IBM Storage Technologies, Backup Exec. Experience working with Backup Technologies - IBM Spectrum Protect(TSM) & Dell Networker, Avamar Knowledge of data deduplication, compression, and tiered storage strategies. Familiarity with ITIL best practices and experience in change management processes. Relevant certifications such as Certified Storage Networking Expert (CSNE), NetApp Certified Data Administrator (NCDA), or equivalent
