THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will be responsible for aligning permit programs with the overarching goals and objectives of the Department by effectively organizing, directing, planning, and coordinating the strategic initiatives of all permit-related activities. This includes addressing customer needs and expectations while adhering to sound management practices and principles. You will conduct field inspections of permitted projects to ensure compliance with both the permit specifications and Department regulations, overseeing various stages of construction work. Your responsibilities will also involve assisting in the verification of grades, elevations, and the layout of structures and roadways in collaboration with contractors and surveyors. Additionally, you will inspect the installation of materials such as cement concrete, bituminous concrete, and drainage systems, as well as monitor work zone traffic control, backfill materials, compaction requirements, and highway restoration efforts, all while prioritizing public safety. Furthermore, you will perform compaction testing using visual non-movement methods on sub-surface strata, soils, and aggregates. Engaging with Department personnel, as well as federal, state, and local agencies, legislators, and the public, will be essential to ensure the successful administration of these projects.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, on an ad-hoc basis, with managers approval. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in King of Prussia.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
  • Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
  • One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
