Job Summary: Support the commercial services and energy trading activities of NRG Energy, Inc., and its subsidiaries across the continental United States and Canada. We are seeking a team-oriented, commercially focused individual who is detail-oriented, resourceful, proactive, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. You will collaborate with in-house and external attorneys and paralegals to handle legal and business requests, manage contract negotiations, approval processes, and various legal and operational tasks. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and execute multiple time-sensitive projects are essential.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Oversee, review, proofread, and quality check documentation before execution and entry into the contract approval process.
  • Assist team attorneys in preparing and negotiating legal documents such as energy supply contracts, transaction confirmations, master trading agreements (e.g., ISDAs, EEIs, NAESBs, WSPP), NDAs, guarantees, and letters of credit.
  • Coordinate and assist in responding to RFPs and RFOs.
  • Log and track legal projects, entity information, compliance deadlines, and other miscellaneous matters.
  • Collaborate with functional area leads, including attorneys, traders, and NRG risk and credit personnel, to resolve issues, secure approvals, and ensure successful execution of transactions and contracts.
  • Demonstrate a proven track record of exercising sound judgment in a fast-paced and high-volume environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Limited hybrid work schedule: 3 days a week in the office (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday) and 2 days a week working remotely (Wednesday, Friday), or as necessary for the business and position. The position will be based in either NRG's Princeton, NJ, or Houston, TX office, depending on the candidate.
  • Some travel may be required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3 to 5 years of successful work experience as a corporate paralegal/contract negotiator or related experience in a law firm energy practice.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
  • ABA-approved Paralegal Certification is a plus.
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong decision-making, problem resolution, and creative thinking skills.
  • Ability to perform diverse and multi-faceted tasks that reflect the dynamic responsibilities of a fast-paced and high-volume business.
  • Familiarity with United States and Canadian power and natural gas markets, as well as related derivatives regulatory regimes, is a valuable attribute.
  • Specific knowledge of CAISO and WPP markets, in addition to ERCOT, MISO, PJM, ISO-NE, and/or NY-ISO, will be viewed favorably.
