Summary

The Civil Engineering team is looking for a Civil/Structural Engineer to play an important role in the design, planning and implementation of energy infrastructure projects. You will manage and perform engineering projects related to roads, transmission towers, dams, buildings site engineering, site engineering, highway design, and geotechnical engineering. Analyzes the design effectiveness and structural reliability of projects. Ensures that the loading and structural standards associated with facilities and assets are maintained.
Responsibilities
- Provide lead engineer function in support of a wide range of design modification projects, equipment applications and failure research, engineering studies, and operations and maintenance activities.
- Perform site visits to complete field inspections, condition assessments, and equipment evaluations and develop technical recommendations with moderate complexity.
- Perform occasional emergency response, including outside of normal business hours.
- Independently coordinate cross disciplinary activities for the successful development and execution of projects.
- Select and apply codes, standards and procedures to work tasks appropriately.
- Perform inspections and evaluations to ensure engineering requirements and Authority specifications are satisfied.
- Provide technical leadership in state-of-the-art engineering and analytical techniques.
- Review designs, calculations, specifications, and reports produced by other internal engineers and external consultants.
- Provide direction and review for the civil design and drafting personnel in the development of project drawings
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficient in the design, operation and maintenance of structural, water systems specific to the electric utility industry.
- Working knowledge of Civil Engineering systems and materials used for Civil Engineering design.
- Ability to apply diverse technical principles and practices, with the understanding of the NYPA's policies, operations and objectives, to engineering deliverables.
- Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, regulations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Collaborative and team-oriented with ability to build relationships with vendors and stakeholders.
- Ability to coordinate the technical and commercial aspects of projects.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations, and complete specifications, scopes of work, reports, and interdisciplinary design packages.
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
- Working experience with a Civil/Structural, design software such as STAADPro, Risa, MathCad, PLS CADD, HEC-RAS software preferred.
- Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects.
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Other disciplines may be considered)
- Minimum of six (8) years of work-related experience preferred.
- New York State Engineer in Training certification preferred.
- Driver's license required.
Physical Requirements
- Approximately 25% travel primarily within NY State.
- Ability to access all areas of the plant and conduct physical evaluations of grounds and equipment including ability to climb and work at high elevations and in confined spaces, walk a significant distance, sometimes on uneven ground, and perform occasional minor lifting.

The estimated salary range for this position is: $110,620.00 - $152,090.00. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates' relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
