POSITION SUMMARY: Utilizing clinical social work techniques and theory, consults on, assesses, and intervenes with high-risk patients and their families regarding the impact/amelioration of emotional and social problems. Duties also include, but are not limited to, conducting psychosocial assessments, conducting protective assessments, planning and implementing effective interventions, evaluation, education, coaching and advocacy on behalf of the patient and family members. The position consults with, collaborates and communicates with a wide range of organizations and individuals including: BMC's Child Protection Team, courts, schools, clinics, other hospitals, physicians and other sources in the overall care of the patient. Position: Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker Department: ED Schedule: 36 Hours (Days/Nights) Week 1: Sun, Mon, Tues- 7a-7:30p Week 2: Mon, Tues, Weds - 7a-7:30p ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
Completesbiopsychosocial assessments and other specialized trauma assessments. Provides trauma informed, strengths-based interventions on behalf of patients and their families. Screens and assesses patients for needs regarding social determinants of health. Provides case management and advocacy on behalf of patients and families. Collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams and community providers on behalf of patients and families. Provides brief, solution-focused interventions and develops safety plans with patients as needed. Uses techniques including motivational interviewing, reflective listening, and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral treatment to support patients and families Provides crisis intervention and problem solving support as needed. Provides information, referrals, and counseling relative to health issues, child protection needs, family violence, illness, community violence, substance use/abuse, disabilities, mental health concerns, immigration, and family homelessness. Provides education, crisis intervention and emotional support to patients and families as needed. Communicates effectively and proactively with various healthcare professionals and team members. Develops and maintains effective therapeutic relationships with patients and families Supervises graduate student interns as appropriate. Participates on social work committees. Participates in individual supervision and group supervision.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
EXPERIENCE:
Previous experience with adults, children and families required. Previous experience with protective issues (children, elders,and disabled persons). Previous experience in hospital or healthcare setting preferred. Previous experience in crisis work preferred.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Requires knowledge of Social Work process and community resources and agencies relative to health, protective services, crisis intervention, substance use disorders, disability, etc. Advanced interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with various healthcare professionals, to develop and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with patients and families, and to supervise graduate students. Must be comfortable in a very fast paced and dynamic work environment (sense of humor is valued). Excellent communication skills - verbal and written. Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of racial and ethnic populations. Bicultural/Bilingual competency a plus. Computer literacy with ability to use standard word processing, electronic medical records, spreadsheet programs and e-mail (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Outlook) and web browsers.
