What your job will be like: The CST Data Scientist II - Data Steward is responsible for the planning, management, and oversight of research and operations data. The incumbent will define, develop, customize, and implement frameworks and tools to enhance Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) data management of both scientific and operations data. In this role you will:
- Serve as subject matter expert on tools and processes for managing data and software as FAIR assets. This includes making recommendations for laboratory investments in various procedural changes or technology options in data and software management; and participating in the implementation of enhancements to data management.
- Collaborate with both mission and operations staff to identify cross-cutting challenges in managing data as an asset and recommend various procedural or technology options or approaches for improvements aligned with the FAIR principles.
- Research, gather, and analyze information requirements from stakeholders.
- Design and implement capture of metadata from technical processes such as software design and database management.
- Participate in the preparation of logical data models, dimensional data models and schemas.
- Participate in development of data mapping specifications and ontology crosswalks.
- Assist with implementation of business processes. Design information transformation processes.
- Manages all activities with transparent documentation, sharing, and project management best practices.
- Document key findings using formal data definition technique and naming standards. Present findings and share results to a variety of stakeholders in written and oral formats.
Qualifications we require: Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Computer Engineering, or closely related field.
- Relevant experience may not be substituted for education.
Experience
- 3 or more years in relevant IT field.
- 3 or more years as a data scientist in a research setting. Familiarity with research data processing and analysis workflows, required.
- Education above the minimum may be substituted for experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in Python and familiarity with publicly available technical libraries for data analytics (e.g. scikit-learn), deep learning (e.g. Pytorch, Tensorflow) and optimization tools.
- Ability to work with large datasets and mine relevant information for use in AI/ML applications.
- Proactive, highly motivated self-starter with demonstrated experience with contributing and leading tasks on major projects with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated ability to develop approaches and solutions to complex problems in the forms of proposals, software, documents or other work products.
- Ability to clearly communicate and report the progress on tasks and projects in writing and through presentations.
- Strong organizational andinterpersonal skills, and ability to effectively work on project teams.
