Job Summary
Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a TES Ultrasound Operations Assistant. The Ultrasound service is extremely busy and supports every service in the Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital. The individual selected for this position will primarily assist Oncology and Emergency services, and also Dermatology, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Neurology and Scott Ritchey Research Center. The TES Ultrasound Operations Assistant will be responsible for scheduling, patient preparation, stocking medical supplies, assisting in obtaining samples for cytology (aspirates and biopsies), process charges for services rendered, send imaging links to rDVMs and clients, and other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions


  • Patient Scheduling: Adjusts to fluctuating needs of patients, emergent situations, needs of DVM's, while maintaining a productive/effective case flow.

  • Provide History: Access all previous imaging history and reports for clinicians for follow up exam. (i.e. large population of restaging oncology patients.)

  • Communication: Requires adequate and appropriate communication with all hospital services/clinicians and students to convey procedural information, urgency and flexibility for each case. Acts as the point of contact and resource for VTH clinicians, staff, and students relating to all Ultrasound inquiries.

  • Technical Assistance: Procedures performed on patients including preparation and performance of aspirates and biopsy samples for cytology.

  • Environment Care and Upkeep: Provides clean and safe environment in all Ultrasound areas. Follow up each patient with appropriate disinfection and deep cleaning after infectious patients.
  • Assistance with the Radiology Beagles care and transportation to and from their kennels for teaching labs.

  • Cardiology Coverage: Process echo images and attach reports from IDEXX when Cardiology service is unavailable.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be willing to work with animals as the patients are dogs, cats, and occasionally horses or exotics.
  • Good communication skills, attention to detail, and time management skills.

Desired Qualifications

  • Some college preferred.
  • Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) or LVT is desired.
  • Basic computer skills, Windows 10 Vet View, Word, Outlook, Excel, E-film, Merge (PACS), Video Software (Panopto, Camtasia), Basic Ultrasound equipment. (Toshiba, Philips and GE Ultrasound units).

Work Hours Typical hours are Mon-Fri 10am - 3pm. Those hours may occasionally be 8:45am - 4:45pm. Some flexibility will be necessary.
