Position Summary: Nurse practitioners (NP) are dedicated to providing quality, professional, cost-effective health care to all patients at NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk.
At NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk, NPs provide services as a licensed independent practitioner (LIP) collaborating with a licensed physician fulfilling a broad range of medical services that would otherwise be provided by the physician. A NP shall be permitted to provide any service within his/her scope of training/skills outlined in the collaborative agreement between the NP and the collaborating physician that has been approved by the Credentials Committee. NPs may provide care for all patients throughout the hospital as permitted by their certification and licensure. NPs work collaboratively with the patient's physicians, assisting in providing high-quality care, and a well-planned, timely discharge. NPs provide patient-centered care as members of interdisciplinary teams emphasizing evidence-based practice and accepted standards of care. A NP shall document according to the practices included in the Clinical Documentation Initiative (CDI). NPs with Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) documentation working in surgery have the primary responsibility of assisting in surgery. A NP working in surgery must have a collaborative agreement with a surgeon. A NP working in surgery will also perform surgical functions in other areas of the hospital as needed by the surgeons or the Chief PA. A NP on the Trauma Team must have privileges to first assist in surgery, experience in emergency medicine, and current Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) documentation, or acquire it within six months. A NP on the Trauma Team may be required to be on-call. Job Responsibilities:

The interpersonal and customer service skills necessary to communicate effectively with patients, their family members, physicians, nursing, and other Hospital personnel when exchanging patient status, care, and treatment information. Requires the ability to recognize and address the psychosocial needs of patients and their families, and the ability and skills necessary to attend to special needs relating to the patient's age and diagnosis. The ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for approximately seventy-five percent of work time for responsibilities such as providing patient care, operating and monitoring equipment, and recording data in patient charts. The ability to walk and stand for approximately seventy-five percent of work time, and to lift, pull, push, and/or carry items such as equipment weighing up to twenty pounds or patients on stretchers for approximately twenty-five percent of work time when providing patient care.
