JOB ANNOUNCEMENT DIRECTOR OF LAND ACQUISITION/DISPOSITION DEPARTMENT OF PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT Bureau of Citywide Planning Number of Positions: 1 (additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Starting Salary: $118,128.00 - $133,524.00 Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59pm CDT on 04/21/2025
Under direction, manages and directs real estate activities for the City of Chicago; and performs related duties as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES * Directs, assigns, and reviews the work of staff engaged in the acquisition and/or disposition of City-owned property, ensuring compliance with City ordinances and state regulations * Establishes and oversees the planning and implementation of work standards, policies, and procedures for real estate activities throughout the city (i.e., converting rail lines, large public open spaces, etc.) * Directs and oversees the disposition of city land through the utilization of land sale programs * Leads the research and investigation required to ensure that public and private land acquisition, development, and disposition activities are performed in compliance with applicable state laws and city ordinances * Monitors consultant contracts by reviewing the scope of services and evaluating the performance of services * Monitors and reviews work performed, scope of services, and performance of consultant contracts * Oversees and manages city owned land through internal and external systems * Directs the City Council approval process for land sales and preparation of legislative reports and presentations * Supervises the evaluation of real estate parcels for acquisition, development, and disposition * Coordinates with the Department of Law, the preparation of sales contracts and certificates of completion * Acts as the liaison to the Department of Law on related federal law proceedings * Attends public meetings and legislative sessions to discuss matters pertaining of city-owned real estate and represents the department on various committees * Reviews federal and state guidelines for land use and environmental considerations for the purpose of making decisions regarding real estate procedures * Supervises the preparation of informational material regarding those policies for use by the media and the general public * Oversees the maintenance of real estate property records through City-owned land inventory database, ensuring accuracy of city ownership, clearing taxes, liens, and tax exemptions Additional duties may be required for this position
Location: City Hall, 11th Floor Days: Monday - Friday Hours: 8:30am - 4:30pm THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM THE CAREER SERVICE Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Nine (9) years of progressively responsible experience in the sale, development, and disposition of real estate, including at least two (2) years of supervisory experience, OR * Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Architecture, or a directly related field, plus at least seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in the sale, development, and disposition of real estate, including at least two (2) years of supervisory experience, OR * Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Architecture, or a directly related field, plus at least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the sale, development, and disposition of real estate, including at least two (2) years of supervisory experience, OR * Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Architecture, or a directly related field, plus at least four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the sale, development, and disposition of real estate, including at least two (2) years of supervisory experience SELECTION REQUIREMENTS This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a skills assessment as part of the interview.
