Total Negotiated Salary (TNS) calculation includes AAARAD salary benchmarks for Clinical Radiology ranging from $101,151 - $591,174. The posted UC salary scales set the base pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.

Position description

The UC Irvine School of Medicine, Department of Radiological Sciences is currently seeking a qualified candidate as a Section Chief of Cardiothoracic Imaging in the Professor of Clinical "X" Series, the Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series, or the Professor In-Residence Series, at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank to join our department's leadership team.



  • Criteria for the Professor of Clinical "X" Series: The incumbent will be expected to conduct substantial research; provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; and perform public and University service. Excellent teaching is essential criteria for appointment in this series.
  • Criteria for the Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series: The incumbent will be expected to teach fellows, residents, and medical students; provide patient care; contribute to scholarly activities; and provide public and University service.
  • Criteria for Professor In-Residence Series: The incumbent will be expected to conduct substantial research and obtain contracts and grants funding; provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; and perform public and University service. Excellent teaching is essential criteria for appointment in this series.


The Chief of Cardiothoracic Imaging division will be a leader in the field with reputation in academic leadership and clinical excellence. The applicant will report directly to the chair of radiological sciences and will be a member of the departmental leadership team. The section chief will participate in departmental strategic planning and operations. Within the cardiothoracic section, the Chief will oversee the day-to-day clinical operations of the section, mentor faculty, promote research, coordinate educational programs and work collaboratively with other faculty and section chiefs. Protected time is provided for administrative duties.

The applicant must be fellowship trained in Cardiothoracic Imaging and have a documented interest in research and teaching with excellent track record in scholarly activities. Candidates must be board-certified in diagnostic radiology and be licensed or be eligible for full licensure in the State of California.

The Department of Radiological Sciences has some of the most advanced imaging equipment including clinical 3T and 1.5T MRI scanners (including Siemens Vida and Lumina 3T scanners), photon counting CT and other spectral CT scanners, latest PET/CT and spectral CT technologies. In addition, there are 320-slice CT, 3T MRI, and 9.4T small animal MRI research scanners. The cardiothoracic section at UCI does not provide cross-sectional interventional service.

It is an NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and a Level 1 Trauma Center.
