Mott MacDonald is seeking an experienced bridge and structure project manager capable of pursuing, capturing, managing, and delivering multiple projects for both public sector and private sector clients in bridge and structure asset management. Mott MacDonald is a global consulting firm with clients and offices around the world. This position will focus mainly on North America with the opportunity to support the broader Mott MacDonald business worldwide with bridge and structure asset management expertise.

Responsibilities of the position will include, but may not be limited to:




  • Serve as a client facing, bridge and structure asset management project leader with the ability to travel to client locations to lead technical meetings to develop the business processes for managing bridge and structure assets.



  • Serve as a client facing, bridge and structure asset management subject matter expert and technical lead with the ability to travel to conferences and workshops, making presentations and providing national leadership in bridge and structure asset management.



  • Ability to lead project teams including directing, assigning, and reviewing the work of technical staff.



  • Work independently to make administrative decisions regarding the direction of projects and resolution of issues as they arise.



  • Serve as a project manager, coordinating with the assigned principal, technical lead and internal staff to ensure that projects are profitable, delivered on time and clients are satisfied and reference-able. Projects will likely include Bridge Management System (BMS) software implementations, advisory services for management of bridges and structures including preservation management, strategic investment planning, developing Transportation Asset Management Plans (TAMPs), and bridge and structure inventory management. Advise clients on best practices and policies.



  • Lead with our vision for bridge and structure asset management to incorporate risk, resiliency, sustainability, safety, and equity in all that we do.



  • Ensure overall project deliverable quality assurance and client satisfaction for assigned area and projects.



  • Lead development of scopes of work, scheduling, and cost estimating for projects and tasks within line of business.



  • Coordinate with subconsultants, bridge and structure inspectors, software vendors, and other team members as needed to deliver successfully for our clients.



  • Coordinate and support account management responsibilities with existing clients to ensure their continued satisfaction with delivery of services.



  • Assist in marketing efforts related to business line including conference attendance, client meetings, business development efforts, updating website and marketing brochure information.



  • Actively seek opportunities to engage with federal, state, and local agencies and industry groups and associations at events attended by prospective and existing clients, e.g. TRB, AASHTO Committee on Bridges and Structures, National Bridge Preservation Partnerships, etc. Seek opportunities to present at scheduled events.



  • Develop and deliver presentations as required to support projects, business development, and overall advancement of bridge and structure asset management.




We invite applications from candidates with the following experience:




  • Minimum 10+ years of bridge or structure Project and/or Program Management experience with ability to manage staff, scope, schedules, and budgets of complex projects.



  • Experience in a lead role at a public agency and/or consulting practice in Bridge and Structure Asset Management and Engineering programs preferred, with emphasis in the following key areas:




    • Bridge and/or structure management including asset treatment selection, application, materials, and construction techniques including maintenance, preservation, rehabilitation, and reconstruction treatments.



    • Bridge inspection, design, and/or load rating experience will also be considered.





  • Minimum 5 years of commercial asset management system implementation or operational experience, focusing on the following key areas:




    • Decision tree/treatment trigger development.



    • Performance modeling for all types of assets and performance data.



    • Treatment applications and ability to guide clients on best practice.



    • Ability to test system output with the client to ensure results are as expected based on agreed upon settings.



    • Ability to ground truth and validate project recommendations with clients and adjust system settings as needed.





  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and working with spatial data a plus.



  • Experience with database and spreadsheet data queries a plus.



  • BS Civil Engineering



  • MS Civil Engineering a plus



  • Professional Engineering Licensure (NCEES certification preferred)




Candidates who can demonstrate the following skills and experience will be considered for the role:




  • Experience and knowledge of bridge and structure and deterioration modes for structure major components and elements.



  • Familiar and proficient with project management principles and processes.



  • Ability to secure advisory services to clients across a wide range of infrastructure organizations.



  • Comfortable chairing high profile meetings and facilitating workshops with clients and industry organizations.



  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience of working within a team environment.



  • Excellent written and presentation skills.



  • Able to work independently and unsupervised.
