THE POSITION

Are you seeking meaningful and rewarding investment management work as a key contributor on a dynamic Private Markets investment team? If so, look no further! The Pennsylvania Public School Employees' Retirement System (PSERS) is seeking an experienced, collaborative Private Markets focused investment professional to assist with the management of PSERS' $25+ billion Private Markets portfolio. A successful candidate will be one who can independently drive projects to completion while also functioning effectively in a team environment, is forward thinking, anticipates issues and addresses them in a proactive manner, and is adaptable to changing circumstances and priorities. The successful candidate must possess strong overall MS Office skills (Excel, PPT, Word, etc.), demonstrate strong attention to detail with superior project management capabilities, be able to multitask and prioritize daily work responsibilities with sensitivity to deadlines, up manage across business units, and possess a reasonable working knowledge of both qualitative and quantitative investment evaluation concepts. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. This position will be part of a larger investment team of over 60 individuals; as such, strong interpersonal skills and collaborative work ethic are essential.

The Pennsylvania Public School Employees' Retirement System ((PSERS),
www.psers.pa.gov), is an agency in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania that administers the pension plan for Pennsylvania's public school employees. This position will play a contributing part in fulfilling PSERS' mission to maintain a financially sound System that supports over a half million members with a current pension fund of approximately $75+ billion.

PSERS is located in Harrisburg, PA, a mid-size city situated along the Susquehanna River. Teleworking is optional, with an occasional need to report to the Harrisburg office as operationally necessary. If requesting to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and be located in Pennsylvania. The Harrisburg area is affordable and near many attractions including Hershey, and it is only two hours from major cities and airports like Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington D.C.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a direct report to the Senior Manager for Private Markets, this position will support the broader Private Markets team in all aspects of the investment management process. In this capacity, the position will primarily perform sourcing and underwriting for investment managers and co-investments along with investment monitoring, and performance reporting across the Private Markets portfolios (Private Equity, Private Credit, Private Real Estate, and Private Infrastructure). Some specific duties will entail sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities for consideration by PSERS, leading the creation and execution of investment memoranda, and monitoring an assigned portfolio, including review of financial statements, quarterly reports, notices of distributions, capital calls, and investment valuations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a PSERS' Intermediate Investment Professional (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • A Bachelor's degree and two years performing relevant private markets investment work; or
  • Six years performing relevant private markets investment work; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Successful completion of any of the following professional accreditations may be substituted for relevant work experience:
    • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA): 1 year per level passed
    • Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA): 1 year
    • Financial Risk Manager (FRM): 1 year per level passed
    • Professional Risk Manager (PRM): 1 year

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree.
  • Four to ten years of private markets relevant work experience in the investment industry.
  • Four to ten years of private markets relevant work experience in an investment bank, endowment, foundation, pension plan, investment consultant, or other allocator of capital type institution.
  • Three or more years of experience making investment professional related presentations.
  • Completion of one or more levels of CFA or CAIA designation.
