Job Summary:

The Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Manager is responsible for support and facilitation of the HSE system in all company processes to ensure the health and safety of all personnel and to minimize environmental impact. This person will work within the HSE Department and closely with all other departments to ensure proper execution of the HSE system. The HSE Manager will work with employee teams and managers while exhibiting a professional and cooperative attitude through Care, Courage, and Collaboration. This position reports to the Plant Manager.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and safety management or a similar field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience related to EHS compliance. Experience will be considered in conjunctionwith education requirements.
  • Manufacturing experience required.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and understanding of health and safety principles & OSHA standards.
  • Must be able to build high performing teams.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily observations/interventions to assure safe work practices are being followed and provide feedback to departments.
  • Provide assistance with investigations on injuries, injury free events, & major incidents to ensure process is followed using incident flow chart. Ensure root cause is found.
  • Create and implement all required safety training to include new employees' orientation.
  • Make studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.
  • Formulates safety policies and procedures to be followed by company or plant personnel in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations. Formulate policies to comply with EPA/DEP regulations.
  • Responsible for monitoring the Environmental Objectives, per Form EN009.
  • Consults with all departments on design and use of equipment, chemicals introduced into the plant, disposal of waste, fire prevention and safety program.
  • Inspects or tours organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards and recommends corrective or preventative measures where indicated.
  • Keeps managers and employees alerted as to the hazards of working with toxic fumes, dangerous chemicals and other hazardous substances.
  • Participates in the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
  • Oversees the administration of workers' compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to cut down on lost employee time and cut back on unjust claims.
  • Devises, supervises, and coordinates training programs or media which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness.
  • Supports and maintains established HYDRO Quality Management System and acts as ISO-14001 representative for Hydro.
  • Perform ISO14001 Environmental audits as required.
  • At quarterly intervals, access the EPA web site at www.epa.gov and review any potential information related to HYDRO of America, Inc. This information will be routed to appropriate members of the organization through established lines of communication (QP905).
