Job Purpose

Lead the development of the future vision and transformational digital objectives for Network Operations within the NY Electric business. Network Operations is enabling the electric control room of the future with a focus on real-time management of distribution, transmission, and renewable generation systems. This role will identify the necessary capabilities, technologies, processes, and data to achieve transformation goals, working in collaboration with the wider NY Electric team and other functions such as IT, Finance, and Customer. Create a cohesive and prioritized roadmap that integrates NY Electric's transformation and digital initiatives. This position is the NY lead for Network Operations, working closely with counterparts in New England and IT. Key products in this portfolio include the transmission energy management system (EMS), advanced distribution management system (ADMS), distributed energy resource management system (DERMS), and the meter data services (MDS) suite.

Key Accountabilities
  • Develop, grow, and coach a high-performing team to drive the successful deployment of technology to meet NY Electric's operational and transformational objectives.
  • Drive development of 5-year digital roadmaps for the Network Operations product lines and yearly outcomes to meet business objectives.
  • Own the execution of Network Operations transformational strategies, with implementation plans to execute the product on schedule and on budget, while delivering the expected benefits.
  • Establish clear communication and alignment for stakeholder across NY Electric
    • Advising on epics and user stories, ensuring alignment across the product line
    • Drive alignment between NY electric stakeholders
    • Clear communication across business and leadership to shape product roadmap and drive prioritization to achieve desired business outcomes
  • Ensure all impacted user groups are informed and consulted with proactive communication, training, and change management as needed
    • Coordinate with change management teams
    • Ensure process change requirements are addressed
    • Establish communities of Practice for user support as needed
  • Works closely with the IT function to develop technology strategy & execution that underpin the ambition of the business
  • Establish and drive coordination on business insights from across the UK, MA, & NY Electric organizations - including internal and external benchmarking and future improvement opportunities
    • Proactively network with other utilities and industry partners to leverage best practices
  • Own development and realization of benefits for the Network Operations products as outlined in the NY Electric Quarterly Outcomes, Performance Contract objectives, and agreed upon future metrics. Creating a clear picture of business benefits and ensuring that there is clarity on benefits being delivered (including benefit ownership by impacted teams), tracking them from project inception through to realization.
  • Drive ideas from discovery through implementation including business readiness for MVP, scaling, and post-go live support.
  • Responsible for assessing and securing necessary change management, training, and support for Network Operations products.
Qualifications
  • A relevant degree, and 10+ years of experience as a business leader at a senior level managing a team managing change programs. This should include the integration of multiple business units and proven ability to create and drive a culture of high performance, continuous improvement and quality.
  • Experience delivering technology projects from an Operational perspective, preferably within the electric utility operations environment.
  • Track record of managing key stakeholders at senior levels in a large publicly listed organization during a change program to achieve tangible results and value. Demonstrates the ability to take action that inspires confidence in National Grid's strategy and long-term business plans with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong Leadership capabilities to lead, motivate and develop required departmental capabilities and future leaders.
  • Excellent problem solving and strategic skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-functional teams and deliver project results in a comprehensive and timely fashion.
  • Ability to communicate and work with people at all levels and across organizational boundaries, including ability to comprehend and explain highly complex information to a less technical audience.
  • Experience around digital product delivery and understanding of best practices for technology development.
  • A valid driver's license with a safe driving record that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy is required.
Job Dimensions- Budget/Direct Reports
  • The team currently has 4 business strategists and will be growing with new roles to support the expanding portfolio. This role is responsible for defining the long-term organizational structure required and the leading the growth/evolution of the network operations team.
  • The Network Operations product line comprise of approximately $50m+ of FY26 investment.
