The Role:

We are looking for our next Senior Scientist - Analytical Chemistry within our R&D Team.

Roquette is a leader in plant-based ingredients, dedicated to innovation and excellence. Our team is passionate about creating solutions that improve lives and drive progress. We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Analytical Chemist to join our dynamic team.

We are looking for a highly skilled Analytical Chemist with experience in High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Gas Chromatography (GC), along with a strong background in carbohydrate chemistry and characterization. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting analyses, developing methods, and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our analytical data.

This role will report directly to the Head of R&D Americas.

This position is located in Geneva, IL

Compensation:

The current salary range for this role is estimated to be $101,300 - $130,200. In addition, this position may also be eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation. The specific compensation offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of complex samples using HPLC and GC techniques.
  • Develop, validate, and optimize analytical methods for the characterization of carbohydrates and related compounds.
  • Interpret and analyze data, ensuring accuracy and reliability, and prepare detailed reports and documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support research and development projects.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot HPLC and GC instruments to ensure optimal performance.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulatory requirements in the laboratory environment.
  • Manage projects including timelines, budgets, and outcomes
  • Participate in cross functional teams that may include sales, marketing, operations, R&D, applications, senior leadership, procurement, customers, and suppliers as a subject matter expert in analytical chemistry
  • Stay current with advancements in analytical chemistry and carbohydrate research to implement best practices and innovative approaches.
  • Help strengthen R&D's analytical science and technology competencies to support the company strategy through innovation breakthroughs and external partnerships
  • Contribute to Roquette's Global Analytical Chemistry Network

Additionally, this role is positioned to lead the analytical group for the Americas R&D team. As such, the successful candidate should see themselves becoming a dynamic leader who can inspire and guide the team to achieve excellence in analytical research and development.

Skills Needed to Successfully Lead a Team:

  • Problem-Solving and Decision-Making:Demonstrated ability to identify issues, develop solutions, and make sound decisions to overcome challenges and drive the team's success.

What You'll Need:

Education:

  • Master's degree in Analytical Chemistry, Organic/Inorganic Chemistry, or a related field with a focus on carbohydrate chemistry. A PhD is a plus.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of hands-on industrial experience with HPLC and GC instrumentation and techniques.
  • Strong understanding of carbohydrate chemistry, including structure, function, and analysis.
  • Proven track record of developing and validating analytical methods.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective report writing and collaboration.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory software and data analysis tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively

Work Environment

  • This role spends approximately 80% of the time in a laboratory environment and 20% of the time performing desk related activities.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb stairs, use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms; work in hot, cold and loud environments. Employee must be able to wear a respirator if required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a full-time position. Days and flexible hours of work are required to meet project, manufacturing and business demands.

Business Travel:

  • Travel will be required when working on projects at manufacturing plants and external collaborator sites.
  • Occasional international travel may be expected.
  • Expectation of ~25% travel both domestic and international.
