Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

Supervise the day to day operations of Coding for South Texas Health System. HIM Coding Supervisor shall oversee and guide all coding staff under his/her supervision and assist Coding Manager as a resource to system departments, physicians and Administration. Responsible and accountable for coding and DRG accuracy, timeliness of coding, and utilization of systems used to perform coding functions. Maintains relationship with Business Office and Case Management staff. Communicates with Coding Manager and HIM management to accomplish hospital's objectives. HIM Coding Supervisor shall be able to fill in at the other facilities when needed, and fill in as Coding Manager when needed. Responsible and accountable for providing exceptional customer service.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Three-five years acute care inpatient and outpatient coding experience required
  2. One to two years experience in leadership role, preferred.
  3. Medical terminology, anatomy and physiology required.
  4. Demonstrates ability to review all coding skills related to assignment of diagnosis, procedures and DRG's of each coder
  5. Computer skills
  6. Excellent customer service skills are required.
  7. Ability to recognize, analyze and resolve process problems,
  8. Flexibility of work schedule.
  9. Ability to work remotely. Must be able to provide high speed internet at place of residence at the expense of the employee, with a work area that is in adherence to privacy and security policies and procedures.
  1. Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS's Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.

EDUCATION / LICENSURE:

  1. RHIT, RHIA or CCS
  2. Able to travel amongst the facilities.
