Job Description

The College of Veterinary Medicine at MU is on a mission to educate and train outstanding clinicians and scientists, generate new knowledge, engage stakeholders, and foster economic growth, all of which promote and protect the health and welfare of animals and people. Veterinarians throughout the Midwest refer animal clients to the Veterinary Health Center for specialized diagnoses and treatment. With sophisticated therapeutic equipment that includes an underwater treadmill, advanced imaging techniques, and groundbreaking equine lameness diagnostic equipment, we are a center for animal healthcare.

The Veterinary Health Center is currently hiring a Part-Time Veterinary Assistant within our Radiation Oncology Team. Our Veterinary Assistants have the opportunity to impact the quality of life for our patients as well as their owners and families. We are seeking energetic, caring, empathetic, and driven individuals who seek an environment that fosters continuous learning and professional development as well as top notch service delivery.

Primary responsibilities for this position may include:

  • Safely restrain, handle, and transport patients; assist with the collection of samples (e.g., blood, urine, and fecal); provide care and monitoring of both hospitalized and clinic patients; and administer medications and treatments as instructed by clinicians.
  • Maintain clean, organized and fully stocked treatment and examination rooms; maintain diagnostic and/or surgical equipment.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to clients both in person and in response to phone and email inquiries; utilize the hospital information system and other software and performing accurate data entry regarding patient care.
  • Perform basic diagnostic procedures as requested within skill set of the particular assistant consistent with MVMB guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Shift

This is a part-time position. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9a to 2p.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

  • Enjoy working with animals and have the ability to comfort, handle and restrain large and/or small patients.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $15.00 per hour
