Job Summary:
SMSI is hiring a Piping Design Engineer who will be responsible for performing 3D piping layout and equipment modeling of moderate to advanced complexity on the Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility (SRPPF) project. This person will be based in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and will be responsible for various engineering assignments on projects. The candidate should have experience in producing and checking complex piping drawings, including plot plans, piping plans, isometrics, and sketches, perform 3D piping layout, reading and marking P&IDs, and reviewing vendor drawings.
Responsibilities:
The qualified candidate will provide the essential technical knowledge and perform work on design and 3D layout of moderate to complex advanced scope. In this role, the candidate will work closely with other team members to develop and check complex piping drawings, including plot plans, piping plans, isometrics, and sketches. The candidate will also contribute to the piping input to Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), updates to the master P&ID, and the piping line list.
Specific requirements and responsibilities include but are not limited to:



  • 2D Computer Aided Design (CAD) and 3D CAD systems and procedures.

    (NWS, ACC)
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling software (Hexagon Smart 3D, AutoCAD P3D, CADWorx etc.) Fluor design guides, piping technical practices, and piping design drawings.
  • Piping design requirements (equipment arrangement, piping layout, stress requirements, and material requirements).
  • Ability to interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), update master P&ID, and piping line list.


Required Skills:



  • Accredited two (2) year degree or global equivalent in technical field of study, or; A combination of education and directly related experience equal to ten (10) years
  • Relevant work experience can be satisfied by nuclear work in the DOD, DOE or commercial nuclear industry space.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications as well as comfortable working skills in desktop automation.
  • US citizenship is required.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Q clearance is required.



Education:


A bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline from an ABET-accredited college or university.
