About the Job Under the direction of the Nuclear Medicine Lead Technologist, performs a variety of Nuclear Medicine Procedures which may be inclusive of PET procedures at a proficiency level producing technically optimal results.
What you will do
- 1. Performs all nuclear medicine techniques and examinations according to the procedures determined by the Radiologists inclusive of PET, PETCT and PETMR.
- Correctly calculates, dispenses, and administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients undergoing procedures in Nuclear Medicine 100% of the time. Documents all necessary data in computer for dose calculations 100% of the time.
- Produces optimal nuclear medicine scans for the purpose of diagnostic interpretation 100% of the time.
- Selects proper technical factors, restraining devices and operates NM equipment as directed 100% of the time.
- Responsible for scheduling, set-up and dosing of all therapy patients as needed in Nuclear Medicine.
- Maintains constant attention to patients assigned to the technologist for examination 100% of the time.
- 2. Ensures the quality assurance of all testing as required by regulatory agencies.
- Responsible for daily and weekly surveys and wipe test as 100% of the time.
- Responsible for regular calibration of equipment as mandated 100% of the time.
- Responsible for procurement, preparation and testing of radionuclides received from radiopharmaceuticals 100% of the time.
- Formulates required radiopharmaceutical for daily and weekly work schedule as needed 100% of the time.
- Follows all STATE, NRC, TJC, and all other applicable regulations in the safe and proper use, storage and disposal of radioactive material 100% of the time.
- Provides radiation protection in accordance with all safety standards and the principle of ALARA to ensure the well-being of patients, hospital personnel, the general public and self while performing any duties 100% of the time.
- Responsible for performing, recording and organizing all required ACR testing as assigned by the Nuclear Medicine Team Leader.
- Performing ACR physics testing on equipment
- Reports systems not in compliance with ACR standards to the NM Lead Technologist
- Organizes patient studies for review and submission to the ACR
- 3. Identifies, Processes, Transfers and Archives all patient exams. Maintain all records in accordancewith Hospital, Department, Modality and Regulatory policies.
- Responsible for proper identification on all exam records and images including patient demographics 100% of the time.
- Maintains all HIPAA regulations and policies regarding patient info 100% of the time.
- Maintains appropriate records of patient examinations 100% of the time.
- Maintains the integrity and security of the Radiology Information System and all other hospital computer systems 100% of the time.
- 4. Conducts self in a professional manner.
- Subject to on-call status including weekends and holidays.
- Refers to the Nuclear Medicine Team Leader any unresolved problems relating to staffing, morale, work methods, discipline and other activities 100% of the time.
- Promotes professionalism, continuing education and staff development 100% of the time.
- Participates in the formal in-service program governed by the radiology department/nuclear medicine division.
- Responsible for maintaining the continuing education and professional licensure required for this position.
- Complete all hospital mandatory education as required by hospital policy.
- Obtain at least 12 category A CE credits per year.
- 5. Responsible for training of other team members.
- Attends and presents in-service presentations at NM staff meetings.
- All other duties as assigned
- Assists in training new staff and students when appropriate
Education
- High School Diploma / GED Required
- Technical Diploma Nuclear Medicine Technology Required
Experience
- At least three (3) years experience Required
- Pediatric Experience Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- Certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology (CNMT) - Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) - upon hire - Required --- OR ----
- Nuclear Medicine Tech-ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) - upon hire - Required --- AND ---
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - within 12 months - Required
