Overview

Selective Insurance is looking for a Manager, Application Development to support of our systems, including resource monitoring and reporting, the development of specialized programs, coordination of software issues with other ITS organizations, work with other operating systems where necessary, and work with connectivity to other computer systems. This role will be responsible for leading organizations and projects that are moderate in complexity and/or of moderate strategic importance to the Selective organization.


Responsibilities

  • Assists the Vice President, Assistant Vice President or Senior Application Manager in the management and direction setting for the application programming team including setting priorities, coordinating, and the reporting of group activities. The Application Manager is responsible for the daily activities of the members of the application developer team.
  • Oversees the development of application systems which are designed to provide information in a timely and efficient manner at the lowest possible cost to ITS and the customer.
  • May participate in the evaluation, acquisition, and implementation of vendor software to support business processes.
  • In conjunction with the Architecture Group 1) establish and enforce standards to which the application developers must adhere, regardless of platform, to provide an enterprise-wide set of standards and development processes, and 2) evaluate and recommend state-of-the-art development tools for use within the applications development environments to achieve the most efficient mix of system design and software development tools to produce maximum cost effective utilization of ITS resources.
  • Responsible and accountable for project delivery including status reporting for the ITPMO.
  • Responsible and accountable for maintaining system service levels as agreed upon with the customer. Identify potential service level problems before they occur and implement or communicate solutions.
  • Responsible and accountable for the budget of the ITS area.
  • Trains, supervises, assigns projects to, evaluates and is responsible for hiring/termination of staff to maintain optimum performance of job duties. Will provide mentoring for interested individuals looking to advance into project management.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of processes that improve efficiency and enhance productivity.
  • May need to assist in the evaluation of distributed software issues, policies and procedures including standardization, purchasing, evaluations, and training. Recognize and identify potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change or where new ones need to be developed, especially regarding future business expansion and the existing factory floor.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Requirements

  • Ability to plan and control projects. To understand and clearly relate to other members of the organization, technical manuals, software specifications, hardware principals of operations, and general methods of applications software development methodologies and techniques, Ability to communicate effectively in dealing with internal and external customers and suppliers Successfully accomplished (but not limited to) the duties listed in the preceding level.

Education and Experience

  • College Degree preferred in Computer Science, Business, or related field.
  • Minimum 5-7 years program/analyst experience required; and experience in application management methodologies preferred.

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.


Pay Range

USD $133,000.00 - USD $184,000.00 /Yr.
