Description

Idaho National Laboratory's Geothermal Energy and Subsurface Systems group is searching for an early career geoscience researcher. In this role you will be contributing to subsurface research programs focused on geothermal energy, geologic hydrogen, in situ mining, and subsurface energy storage. You will report to the Group Lead and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop research proposals, lead research programs, conduct field sampling campaigns, and execute laboratory analyses. Excellent problem-solving skills and a commitment to advancing subsurface science are essential for this role. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls, Idaho facility with every other Friday off.

Responsibilities Include:



  • Collaborate with other researchers on field work campaigns for testing, measurement, and sampling.
  • Collaborate with other researchers to develop and implement new experimental protocols and techniques.
  • Publish research in peer-reviewed scientific journals and present findings at conferences and workshops.
  • Collaborate with other researchers in writing grant proposals for external funding opportunities.
  • Stay current with the latest advancements and developments in subsurface science.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:



  • M.S. or Ph.D. in geology/geochemistry/earth science or related field
  • Strong background in mineral physics, petrology, geochemical cycles, isotope geochemistry, or ore deposits
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations


Preferred qualifications:



  • Hands-on experience collecting rock and/or gas samples in the field
  • Experience designing and implementing geoscience experiments
  • Strong publication record in high impact journals
  • Understanding of funding mechanism across relevant DOE offices (GTO, FECM, ARPA-E)

Job Information:



  • The pay range for this position is $77,628 min - $159,228 max. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
