As the largest self-supported food service department in North Texas, UNT Dining Services offers 5 Dining Halls, 20+ retail venues, an upscale dining restaurant, a hydroponic garden, a central scratch bakery, and catering service-all led by professionally-trained chefs and hospitality experts. UNT is recognized as a national leader in university dining due to the department's innovative, trendsetting approach to food service and award-winning culinary talent. UNT operates Mean Greens Cafe, the nation's first 100% vegan collegiate Dining Hall, and Kitchen West, Texas' first and only university Dining Hall Certified Free From the Big 8 Food Allergens and Gluten Kitchens with Confidence. Position Overview

To advance the mission of the University of North Texas through Food Service. Specifically, the role is to ensure that our customers are able to place appropriate food orders through our Catertrax system and to provide maximum assistance in collaboration with the Union Food Service Director, Director Operations and Executive Chef when placing custom orders keeping their budget, needs and goal of the event in mind

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and three years' of highly responsible and varied office administration or business management experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Exceptional customer service skills. Advanced written communication skills. Advanced Microsoft Office skills. Knowledge of accounting/budgeting procedures. Ability to work under pressure, to adjust to constant changes, to handle multiple tasks, and to coordinate the work of others. Ability to keep complex records, to assemble and organize data of complex nature, and to prepare and submit reports in acceptable formats. Ability to conceptualize, plan and organize multiple programs and assignments effectively. Ability to work on complex and confidential tasks utilizing judgment, tact, and resourcefulness. Skill in developing and maintaining good working relationships. Knowledge of policies, practices, procedures and terminology of assigned function.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Job Duties:



  • Ensure each event is properly entered into the Catertrax System
  • Gather all pertinent details for each event by understanding different types of events such as Breakfast, Lunches, Coffee Breaks, Cook Outs, Deliveries and Social events and their FB needs.
  • Be able to ask relevant questions i.e.. budgetary restrictions, and understanding of the type of event for which food is needed and the desired outcome of the event.
  • Have knowledge of the food cost and product availability in order to assist customers.
  • Be able to understand the menu and actively recommend food and beverage with the help of peers in accordance with departments policies and guidelines. Assist event planners in menu planning.
  • Take ownership in educating and upholding all Verde policies.
  • Know other elements needed for the event i.e.. tables, linens, centerpieces, time line of the event and availability of the space where the event is held. Electrical outlets, covered space for the buffets and source of water for cook out events etc.
  • Develop a plan to forecast and gather information on all repeat and reoccurring events to stay ahead in planning, by reaching out to pertinent meeting planner.
  • Answer all event enquiries within 24 hours.
  • Participate in thrice weekly BEO meetings
  • Be able to generate accurate BEOs based on the information gathered.
  • Know all all areas of production and product delivery in order to meet customer needs.
  • Communicate changes to all operating departments in a timely manner
  • Know and maintain good relations with all event planners in various departments of the University.
  • Solicit feedback as to the success of each event serviced.
  • Maintain client files with all relevant information such as menu, budget and no of guest served etc. for their future event.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned in a timely manner.
  • Mentor, train and monitor office support person to maximize productivity.
