The External Investing Group ("XIG") provides investors with investment and advisory solutions, across leading hedge fund managers, private equity funds, real estate managers, public equity strategies and fixed income strategies. XIG manages globally diversified programs, targeted sector-specific strategies, customized portfolios, and a range of advisory services. Our investors access opportunities through new fund commitments, fund-of-fund investments, strategic partnerships, secondary-market investments, co-investments, and seed-capital investments. XIG provides manager diligence, portfolio construction, risk management, and liquidity solutions to investors, drawing on Goldman Sachs' market insights and risk management expertise. We extend these global capabilities to the world's leading sovereign wealth funds, pension plans, governments, financial institutions, endowments, foundations, and family offices, for which we invest or advise on over $300 billion of alternative investments, public equity strategies and fixed income strategies.

HOW YOU WILL FULFILL YOUR POTENTIAL



  • Actively participate in the diligence of third-party investment advisors with particular emphasis upon the business and operational aspects of hedge funds. Such diligence will include your evaluation of the advisors' business capabilities, including, governance, financial and operational sustainability, talent management, operating models, infrastructure, transactional workflows, liquidity management, compliance, valuation, cybersecurity, and service providers.
  • Assess advisor and fund documentation and related legal structures, including offering documents, procedure manuals, compliance procedures, financial statements and marketing materials.
  • Monitor third party advisors using diligence surveillance tools, publicly available information and review of periodic reporting (e.g., financial statements) to identify inherent reputational, legal and operational risks and the effectiveness of controls designed to mitigate such risks.
  • Develop and increase your understanding of alternative investment strategies, including, hedge fund strategies, private equity, venture capital, long only, real estate and impact investing.
  • Build and maintain industry expertise with key service providers in the alternative investing ecosystem including managed services and technology platforms.
  • Participate in project management aspects of multiple high-impact work streams across the GSAM XIG diligence functions with particular focus on the group's annual and ongoing diligence initiatives.
  • Communicate diligence observations and conclusions to senior management, clients and other stakeholders verbally and through written memos and presentations.
  • Serve as primary liaison to and build relationships with the broader Investment and Client Solutions teams within XIG alongside divisional Compliance and Legal functions.



SKILLS & EXPERIENCE WE'RE LOOKING FOR



  • 2+ years of prior work experience in a similar or related field.
  • Interest in and an exhibited aptitude for the alternative investment industry, related strategies and the financial instruments employed globally therein.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, relationship management, interview, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research, assess a variety of facts and processes, identify strengths and weaknesses, and make objective conclusions.
  • Strong project management and business acumen.
  • Highly organized and proactive individual with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent quantitative, qualitative, and analytical skills with a data driven and strategic approach to solving problems.
  • Technological prowess (Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other enterprise tools).
  • Ability to handle multiple, time-sensitive initiatives while emphasizing quality of work.
  • Fast learner who can navigate the organization and get up to speed quickly.
  • Insatiable curiosity and healthy professional skepticism.
