About the role

The Global Decarbonisation Director is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the implementation of Alcoa's Decarbonisation Plan.

In this role, you will lead and manage decarbonisation initiatives across our global operations. This requires collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders, including internal teams, external consultants, and regulatory bodies, to optimise decarbonisation pathways and drive associated strategies.

You will work across global operations to develop and execute complex projects, ensuring effective coordination, clear communication, and strategic planning to achieve successful outcomes.

Reporting to Vice President, Capital, you will:

  • Help drive opportunities to reduce GHG Emissions through influencing of key stakeholders and execution of the global decarbonization roadmap, with the ultimate objective to achieve Alcoa's global decarbonisation ambitions in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Provide Alcoa knowledge and management support to drive decarbonisation activities for the global operations. This will include coordinating and ensuring alignment between Operations and Corporate functions, including Refinery of the Future, Centres of Excellence, and the Sustainability function.
  • Own the global Decarbonisation Roadmap, including overseeing stage gate development and execution of initiatives, with a line of sight to marry up with emerging and future technologies and opportunities.
  • Be the link between Alcoa's Corporate Sustainability function and the global operations teams engaging directly with the Climate Change Director to ensure continued alignment with the overall climate strategy.
  • Provide decarbonisation program management expertise, problem analysis and decision-making skills to fast-track execution of the roadmap and develop further recommendations for decarbonisation opportunities.
  • Lead the development and execution of the priority projects in conjunction with existing and new operating teams to achieve critical outcomes for the operations.
  • Ensure all projects and outputs are based on strong commercial and technical understanding of our assets (Mining, Refining and Smelting).
  • Work closely with the Corporate Affairs team to secure support, funding and available subsidies for projects.
  • Use a combination of technical and commercial acumen to solve complex commercial and strategic issues and then articulate these to internal stakeholders to strengthen understanding of the issues.
  • Build an understanding and awareness in the global operations of decarbonisation trends and financial implications for the water and energy areas of the business.
  • Implement rigorous and measurable project management and evaluation to facilitate review and analysis of program effectiveness, appropriate allocation of resources and timely action.

What you bring to the role

  • Bachelor's degree: Commerce or Technical discipline (preference Engineering, but other disciplines considered) is essential
  • 10 years+ in leadership roles in a Resource Industry environment
  • Experience with leading decarbonisation planning and development in a corporate environment
  • Industry experience in complex GHG management environment
  • Familiarity with carbon markets, exposure and regulatory frameworks that influence decarbonisation objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and drive projects forward and navigate challenges along the way
  • Strategic Thinking and Project / Program management skills that can work across the value chain functions (mining, refining and smelting) and the multiple initiatives within those.
  • Strong Leadership, Presentation and Communication Skills

  • Apporter aux equipes Alcoa un soutien en gestion et des connaissances pour piloter les activites de decarbonisation des operations globales. Cela inclut la coordination et l'alignement entre les fonctions operations et corporatives, y compris la Raffinerie du Futur, les Centres d'Excellence et la fonction Durabilite.
  • Etre responsable de la feuille de route mondiale de la Decarbonisation, notamment la supervision du developpement des etapes cles et l'execution des initiatives, en veillant a leur alignement avec les technologies et opportunites emergentes et futures.
  • Faire le lien entre la fonction Durabilite corporative d'Alcoa et les equipes d'operations globales en collaborant directement avec le Directeur du Changement Climatique pour garantir une coherence avec la strategie climatique globale.
  • Apporter une expertise en gestion de programme de decarbonisation, en analyse de problemes et en prise de decision pour accelerer la mise en uvre de la feuille de route et developper de nouvelles recommandations sur les opportunites de decarbonisation.
  • Piloter le developpement et l'execution des projets prioritaires en collaboration avec les equipes existantes et nouvelles pour atteindre des resultats critiques pour les operations.
  • Garantir que tous les projets et resultats reposent sur une solide comprehension commerciale et technique de nos actifs (Mines, Raffinage et Fonderie).
  • Travailler en etroite collaboration avec l'equipe des Affaires Corporatives pour obtenir des soutiens, financements et subventions disponibles pour les projets.
  • Utiliser une combinaison de competences techniques et commerciales pour resoudre des enjeux commerciaux et strategiques complexes, et les articuler efficacement aux parties prenantes internes pour renforcer la comprehension des enjeux.
  • Developper une comprehension et une sensibilisation au sein des operations mondiales sur les tendances de la decarbonisation et les implications financieres pour les secteurs de l'eau et de l'energie.
  • Mettre en place une gestion rigoureuse et mesurable des projets pour faciliter l'examen et l'analyse de l'efficacite des programmes, l'allocation appropriee des ressources et la prise de decision en temps opportun.

Ce que vous apportez au poste

  • Diplome universitaire en Commerce ou discipline technique (preference pour l'Ingenierie, mais autres disciplines considerees)
  • 10 ans+ d'experience dans des roles de leadership dans l'industrie des ressources
  • Experience dans la planification et le developpement de la decarbonisation dans un environnement corporatif
  • Experience industrielle dans la gestion complexe des GES
    Familiarite avec les marches du carbone, l'exposition et les cadres reglementaires influencant les objectifs de decarbonisation
  • Capacite demontree a gerer et a faire avancer les projets tout en surmontant les defis rencontres
  • Competences en reflexion strategique et en gestion de projet/programme capables d'intervenir a travers les fonctions de la chaine de valeur (mines, raffinage et fonderie) et les multiples initiatives associees
  • Forte capacite de leadership, presentation et communication
