Job Description

Vertex is seeking a talented leader to join our US Kidney Business Unit to support our aspirations of bringing Povetacicept, a Phase 3 investigational therapy that has the potential to transform lives across multiple serious diseases, to patients.

The Senior Director, Head of Marketing, US Kidney - Pove leads the povetacicept marketing team for the US Kidney Business Unit, which is preparing for potential commercialization of an investigational therapeutic being studied for the treatment of Immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) and other B cell-mediated diseases. This role will recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing marketing team, develop the launch strategy, and ensure execution of launch prep activities. Functional marketing oversight spans across HCP, Patient, Unbranded, and Thought Leader Marketing. We are seeking a candidate that has a strong track record in US commercial roles in highly competitive therapeutic areas, demonstrated success in coaching teammates, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovation-focused environment. This role reports to the Vice President of the US Kidney Business Unit and is a key member of the BU leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drives the evolution and implementation of our go-to-market model, cross functionally leading the launch plan to execute against our aspirations of bringing potentially transformative therapies to patients across multiple diseases

  • Builds the marketing team, and coaches the team to deliver exceptional results and operate as a high performing team

  • Leads the brand strategic and tactical plans including the annual planning process and related execution

  • Leads team to create commercialization campaigns including compelling key messages, unbranded disease education and branded patient and HCP campaigns

  • Seeks a deeper understanding of the market landscape through insight generation to best position Vertex therapies for success

  • Drives innovative use of data and technology to deliver with agility, clear evaluation of ROI for all activities

  • Defines performance goals and tracks performance against those goals as we prepare for launch, including leading the cross functional launch readiness team

  • Provides input into forecasting assumptions, both short-term and long-term

  • Maintains a high degree of external focus with significant customer and field team engagement

  • Develops strong partnerships with cross-functional teams to support business goals

  • Collaborates with communications review committee to approve materials for use with customers

  • Manages agency partners and team to ensure on budget and timely deliverables

  • Role models and instills a culture of compliance focused on ethics and integrity in all we do

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Typically requires 12 years of work experience and 5 years of supervisory/management experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Additional preferred experiences:

  • Specialty product launch experience

  • Work within highly competitive markets

  • Kidney experience

Required Skills

  • Experience defining the strategy for a brand or portfolio of products in a highly competitive space

  • Ability to oversee generation of insights, and apply those insights to business problems/opportunities

  • Analytical mindset, with demonstrated ability to develop strategy, make strategic recommendations, monitor performance, understand ROI and allocate resources

  • Exceptional working knowledge of market forecasts and relationship of business drivers to revenue

  • Exceptional working knowledge of MS Office applications, including PPT, Excel and Word

  • Experience in pharmaceutical marketing, or closely related field(s) (e.g., pharmaceutical sales, ad agency, etc.)

  • Experience managing teams and individual staff members

Pay Range:

$225,600 - $338,400

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as:
1. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
2. On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
