The Ideal Candidate

The Senior Human Resources Business Partner is a strategic partner that will be responsible for aligning people-related initiatives to the needs and long-term strategies of the assigned areas and overall business. Leading and coordinating efforts which positively impact the attraction, motivation, development, and retention of talent as well as maintain the company's strong culture. Assigned areas include Johnston & Murphy and Genesco Brands Group as well as some Centers of Excellence (COEs).

While building strong relationships, credibility and trust, the focus will be to establish a business partner model within these areas. Providing consultative support to leaders, managers and employees and having the ability to fluctuate between strategic and day-to-day needs. The HRBP is an active member in assigned areas' leadership teams and has a high level of business acumen.

Reporting to the CHRO, you will serve as a member of the HR leadership team and may be asked to take on more strategic initiatives as well. You will also work closely with the Director of HR Business Partnerships ensuring we create a consistent business partner experience.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Collaborate with business leaders to align HR strategies in support of Genesco's footwear-focused strategy and support the departmental objectives
  • Provide input and recommendations on workforce planning and organizational design to support long-term business goals
  • Drive and support performance and talent management programs such as succession planning and learning & development in partnership with Talent Management COE. Programs should positively impact the motivation, development, retention and assessment of talent and needs of the teams.
  • Collaborate with leadership on opportunities or issues within the business and develop innovative solutions to address
  • Provide consultation to leaders, managers, and employees on a variety of topics such as coaching, performance management, policy interpretations, career progression, leadership development, conflict management, etc. in order to drive high performance, productivity and employee engagement
  • Play a key role in the deployment of the annual employee engagement survey within assigned business areas including driving participation, analyzing results, understanding team dynamics, and creating meaningful action plans to increase employee engagement
  • Partner closely with Talent Acquisition on recruitment and onboarding
  • Recommend approaches, programs, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department/organization through strong understanding of organizational trends, best practices, data/analysis and business acumen skills
  • Partner with Employee Relations COE on investigations and/or potential disciplinary actions for employees within assigned areas
  • Advise managers and employees on benefits and compensation-related matters to retain key talent; support the salary planning process including merit and bonus cycles


Experience and Skill's You'll Need to Have

  • 6+ years of progressive HR experience, including experience as an HR Generalist/HR Business Partner
  • Knowledge of employment laws and regulations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Exceptional problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities
  • Analytical skills to interpret HR metrics and guide decision-making
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Familiarity with HRIS and other HR technologies
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources and/or relevant HR Certification such as SHRM-CP or PHR is a plus but not required
