Job Summary

The Small Business Loan Specialist supports the Small Business Express loans and SBA loans. The role is responsible for ensuring Small Business Express loans from our branches are processed, closed and QC accurately. Additionally for our SBA loans, the specialist would provide consistent communication with SBA, fulfilment of SBA requests, and coordinating with teammates to meet these needs. Responsibilities include tasks within multiple workflows and systems, including the maintenance of operational controls that satisfy all Company Policy, procedures, and regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and responsibilities are essential to the Small Business Loan Specialist role. Other tasks may be assigned as needed:

    Small Business Express Processing and Support: Process, document, close and provide quality control assistance on our Small Business Express product that are generated by our Business Banking branches
    • Effective Communication: Facilitate consistent and clear communication between our branches and our internal teams to ensure seamless operations
    • Documentation Support: Complete LaserPro loan documents in support of our Small Business Express products.
  • SBA Origination and Servicing: Accurately execute maintenance of loan files, including documentation and record-keeping in accordance with regulations and organizational standards.
    • Effective Communication: Facilitate consistent and clear communication between SBA, and internal teams to ensure seamless operations.
    • Documentation Support: Complete LaserPro loan documents. Track, manage, and resolve SBA documentation requests in support of SBA loan.
  • Resource Expertise: Serve as a key resource for teammates and other departments, providing guidance and information on small business and SBA lending.
  • Timely Processing: Oversee the efficient and accurate processing of small business and SBA requisitions and related tasks.
  • Problem Resolution: Handle complex quality control issues and situations, providing solutions that align with policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Follow established processes and standards to comply with relevant regulations and company policies.
  • Process Updates: Promptly review changes in policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure processes are being completed accurately.
  • On-going education: Stay current with industry trends, SBA regulations, and bond lending best practices through continuous education, training, and professional development opportunities as provided by the department and bank.
  • Adhere to and ensure adherence to bank policies and procedures designed to comply with Federal regulations, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act and OFAC regulations.
  • To that end, ensure timely and accurate preparation of Currency Transaction Reports, Suspicious Activity Reports and other recordkeeping requirements.
  • Complete and pass all assigned eLearning courses and certifications as required.
  • Avoid all real or perceived conflicts of interest and always maintain client privacy and confidentiality.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.


Qualifications

Education/Skills/Training:

  • High school diploma, on-the-job training, and ongoing education.

Experience:

  • 1-3+ years of experience in:
  • Commercial or consumer loan processing, closing or underwriting.
  • Banking or Financial services.
  • Experience working with loan documentation systems and workflow tools is also valuable.

Skills:

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple loans and processes at once
  • Knowledge of bank policies, regulations, and compliance requirements
  • Proficiency with systems like LOS (Loan Origination Systems), and general office software (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent communication skills, especially for coordinating between SBA, internal teams, and possibly clients
  • Understanding of loan documentation, funding, closing, and quality control
