POSITION SUMMARY:
The Controller is a hands-on leader that directs and oversees the day-to-day accounting and finance operations and functions. Establishes and maintains accounting systems, procedures, and policies. Directs all analysis and reporting of financial information including budgets, planning, and required filings and reports. Presents findings and recommendations to management. Run all critical finance tasks - including the financial transactions in accordance with GAAP, month-end close and monthly financial reporting package.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential job functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Oversee the financial recording of all activities for the bank.
- Directs the finance accounting department and is responsible for maintaining a system to account for the financial activities of the Bank and Holding Company.
- Responsible for managing the Accounts Payable process, Liquidity Management, General Accounting areas to ensure that each area is functioning appropriately, and the reports produced are accurate and timely.
- Aids other corporate departments regarding accounting related matters.
- Responsible for managing the Accounts Payable process and Cash Management ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of these processes.
- Responsible for managing and overseeing the monthly general ledger certification process.
- Responsible for the daily review and oversight of the daily changes to the balance sheet, income statement and report significant changes to management.
- Responsible for the accounting of bank-owned life insurance "BOLI".
- Maintain legal cash liquidity as required; make recommendations to the CFO or CEO to invest excess cash and liquidity funds, considering optimum return and safety of investment; sell or redeem liquidity funds to provide cash; recommend borrowing from the Federal Home Loan Bank.
- Responsible for the preparation and review of the quarterly FDIC Call Report and other regulatory reports related to the Holding Company such as FRY reports.
- Responsible for reviewing the preparation of financial statements for ALCO and Board of Directors.
- Oversees the preparation and delivery of the daily financial highlights.
- Coordinate audits with various external auditors, including year-end financial auditors, bank auditors, and government auditors. Ensure that reports and documents provided to various auditors are accurate and complete.
- Responsible for the general ledger closing process and ensuring all entries are recorded in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Preparing annual performance reviews and human resource functions for department staff.
- Update and maintain accounting and finance policies and procedures. Ensure they are reviewed and approved on an annual basis.
- Coordinate department personnel training for bank compliance policies and procedures.
- Implements research and/or analysis of accounts, process and systems as directed by the CFO or CEO.
- Performs other duties or assignments as requested by the CFO or CEO.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance required or equivalent experience working within a financial institution.Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential preferred.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting consolidated financial statements and investment accounting principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software, the bank utilizes BankTel, FIS, FIS H360 and ProfitStar.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and integrity.
- Analytical nature, excellent skills in accounting, supervision and management, thorough understanding of overall savings bank operation, systems, and procedures. Effective use of latest techniques of management and administration, including data processing. These are also required skills and aptitudes.
