The Opportunity

The University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Medicine (COM) is seeking applications for a non-tenure earning, assistant professor of medicine or associate professor of medicine and course director of Health Systems Sciences. The course director ofHealth Systems Sciences (HSS) is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a competency-basedlongitudinal curriculum in health systems sciences (HSS), fully integrated with both the basic science and clinical science domains across the UCF College of Medicine (COM) M.D. curriculum. The HSS curriculum provides medical students with foundational knowledge in patient safety, healthcare quality, value-based care, social determinants of health, community and population health, health policy and financing.

The selected candidate will collaborate with educational leadership and faculty across the continuum of medical education, as well as other stakeholders, to integrate and reinforce HSS content throughout the M.D. curriculum.They are expected to engage in scholarly and research activities, preferably in areas such as medical education, community health services improvement, and/or health-related program development and evaluation.Expectations and resources will be based on faculty interests and departmental priorities.

The HSS course director will also contribute to interprofessional education efforts in collaboration with the other colleges of the UCF Academic Health Sciences Center (AHSC). This includes fostering collaborative learning environments, developing interprofessional curricula, and coordinating joint educational activities to enhance the integration of health systems sciences across the various disciplines.

Additionally, the HSS course director will have a clinical role and teach medical students within the context of patient care for vulnerable populations through the UCF service clinics. They will also have the opportunities to practice with in the UCF Health faculty practice and the mobile health clinic.

Primary Duties:


  • Design, develop, and lead the implementation of the longitudinal HSS curriculum.

  • Collaborate across basic science, clinical science, and health systems science domains to integrate and reinforce concepts across the four-year curriculum.

  • Provide HSS content expertise for educational and assessment materials delivered through a variety of active learning pedagogies.

  • Engage in clinical teaching of medical students in the context of student service clinics.

  • Engage in scholarly activities in both clinical and community settings related to health services and health-related social sciences research.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited institution with a license to practice in the State of Florida.

  • Content expertise in health systems science.

  • Demonstrated experience in teaching in UME and/or GME.

  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to service for vulnerable communities.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Internal medicine, family medicine, pediatric residency training.

  • Experience in educational leadership.

  • Experience with active learning pedagogies (e.g. flipped classroom, team-based learning, case-based learning, etc.).

  • Experience with the American Medical Association's curricular topics on HSS.
