About the Role

The US Regional EHS Machinery Engineer will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of machinery safety programs across multiple lithium-ion battery manufacturing facilities in the United States. This role requires strong technical knowledge of industrial machinery, risk assessment, and compliance with U.S. regulatory and international safety standards. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Maintenance, Production, and Global EHS to ensure machinery is safe, compliant, and aligned with the company's zero-harm safety culture.

What You Will Do
  • Lead and manage the implementation of machine safety standards (ANSI, OSHA 1910 Subpart O, ISO 12100, ISO 13849, etc.) across multiple battery manufacturing sites.
  • Perform regional audits and risk assessments of machinery and automation systems (including robots, AGVs, conveyors, and presses).
  • Partner with design engineering teams to ensure safety is integrated into new equipment procurement, retrofits, and production line modifications.
  • Develop and standardize Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, Machine Guarding protocols, and Preventive Maintenance safety tasks.
  • Coordinate and validate safety functions of interlocks, light curtains, E-Stops, and other control-reliable systems in partnership with controls engineers.
  • Provide technical guidance during incident investigations involving machinery and recommend corrective and preventive measures.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for machinery safety compliance during regulatory inspections or third-party audits.
  • Support training development and delivery for machine safety awareness, safe operation, and EHS compliance requirements.
  • Track and report key safety metrics, participate in safety committees, and drive initiatives that support injury prevention and EHS cultural growth.
  • Ensure all activities align with ISO 45001 and 14001 standards, corporate EHS policies, and U.S. federal/state/local regulations.

Qualifications
What You Need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years of EHS or Engineering experience with a strong focus on machinery safety in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. OSHA regulations, NFPA, ANSI, and ISO machinery safety standards.
  • Experience in high-speed automated manufacturing or battery/chemical processing preferred.
  • Strong understanding of LOTO, machine guarding, and control system reliability principles.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Understands and follows all standards of IATF16949 and VDA 6.3 quality standards. (training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)
  • Understands and follows all standards of ISO14001 environmental standards. (training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)
What is "Nice to Have"?
  • Certified Machinery Safety Expert (CMSE), TUV Functional Safety Engineer, or equivalent credential.
  • Experience with lithium-ion battery or similar high-hazard manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with industrial safety automation systems (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens Safety PLCs).
  • Experience implementing safety-related aspects of ISO 50001 (Energy Management) a plus.

Work Environment

The work environment is primarily an automated manufacturing plant with a concrete floor and is characterized by some temperature extremes, moderate noise, and forklift traffic.
