Job Overview

Supervises custodial staff by directing building cleaning and related services. Ensures that custodial staff is scheduled and assigned to various buildings and/or areas, inspects work to ensure satisfactory performance, takes action to correct deficiencies, and takes necessary steps to meet special requirements or circumstances. Employee supervises staff but may also be required to perform tasks assigned to custodians when necessary. Ensures that services provided are consistent and at a high level of quality through adequate training, supervision of production work, and emphasizing proper use of chemicals, equipment and the importance of quality control. Coordinates issues promptly and thoroughly with the manager of custodial services. Has industry level knowledge and routinely updates themselves (under the supervision of the Director) and routinely updates and trains their staff on cleaning protocols for COVID-19 disinfecting procedures, products and equipment, and ability to direct staff engaged in disinfecting procedures in the workplace. Understands the needs of the customers and building contacts to routinely respond to their needs. Demonstrates a willingness to serve.

Work Interactions

This position reports to the Assistant Director of Custodial and Special Events, along with the Assistant Director of Night Operations. This position works directly and/or indirectly with Athletic and Events Director, Events Supervisor, Day Custodial Supervisors, Evening Custodial Supervisors, Residential Custodial Supervisors and Weekend Custodial Supervisors. Reporting directly to this position are ten to fifteen custodians and one to two floor care specialists or leads. The incumbent and staff work during the day shift hours to ensure buildings are maintained and emergencies are taken care of. The incumbent's area of responsibility will cover 300,000 to 450,000 square feet of space. May be called upon to lead and/or participate in department and college wide committees.

This position serves as a representative for the University Facilities department to the university community and visitors. The incumbent must act in a professional manner, carry proper identification and comply with University and department policies and procedures. The incumbent serves as a member of a team demonstrating a willingness to be flexible with personal and staff schedule to accommodate emergency situations such as staffing shortages and snow removal.

Requirements and Qualifications

Academic Level: College

Practical Experience:

Five years of custodial experience. Some plant operation maintenance experience is helpful. Preferred requirements and qualifications should be listed separately here. Has a demonstrable knowledge of the chemistry behind the cleaning process and keeps pace with the changing technology and its application.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certification:

Some computer literacy helpful. Required to have a valid District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia driver's license.

Other Skills:

Requires a basic knowledge of English including the ability to read, write and speak English with understanding. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally essential. Must be able to work as part of a team. Must have ability to act independently and exercise mature judgement. Should also have capability to analyze relevant operational issues and identify solutions. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required. College degree preferred.

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$41,926.00 - $65,090.00

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
