Job Description

You're a passionate, empathetic problem-solver with a deep understanding of mental health and substance abuse challenges. You're ready to empower individuals and help them regain their confidence and stability. You believe in the power of community and collaboration, and you're committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those you support.

Your Mission

As a Community Support Specialist, you'll be on the front lines of client care, offering behavioral and socially rehabilitative services that help people lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. You'll work closely with clients to understand their unique needs and provide the support they need in key areas such as emotional wellbeing, finances, social life, and career goals. You'll also collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure every client gets the comprehensive care they deserve.

Your Day-to-Day

  • Be a Life-Changer: Provide life-changing support that helps clients regain control of their emotional, social, and financial wellbeing. Your interventions will help them build self-confidence and emotional resilience.
  • Teamwork Makes the Dream Work: Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to ensure holistic client care. You'll be at the heart of a supportive, multicultural environment where everyone has a voice.
  • Be the Guide: Help clients navigate the complexities of life by connecting them with local resources, support networks, and services. You'll be a beacon of guidance, helping them access everything from financial aid to community groups.
  • Problem-Solving Extraordinaire: Utilize your creativity to design personalized treatment plans that are as unique as your clients. You'll combine skill-building with compassion to help clients break through barriers.
  • Crisis Management Hero: In times of crisis, you'll be there with the right tools and support to guide your clients through tough moments and resolve challenges with empathy and expertise.
  • Promote Wellness: You'll work tirelessly to help clients achieve wellness across all aspects of their lives-spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, and socially.
  • Advocate for Change: Be the voice for clients who may be struggling with legal, financial, or societal challenges. Your advocacy will help them overcome obstacles and thrive.

What You'll Need to Bring

  • Educational Background: You've got a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related human services field (or a great mix of education and hands-on experience).
  • People Skills: You know how to communicate-whether it's one-on-one, in groups, or in writing. You're a listener, a motivator, and a clear communicator all rolled into one.
  • Leadership Potential: You're not just a team player-you're someone who steps up, shares knowledge, and inspires others to do their best.
  • Cultural Competence: You're comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, always striving to create a respectful and inclusive environment for clients and colleagues alike.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: The world of community support is always evolving, and you thrive in environments where no two days are the same. You're ready to face challenges head-on and come up with creative solutions.
  • Driving (If Required): If the role requires driving, you'll meet all safety and compliance standards to keep everyone safe on the road.
  • Commitment to Growth: If you're working in Employment Services, you'll be ready to obtain your Benefits Planning certification within 12 months of joining the team. You love learning and growing professionally!
  • Hands-On Availability: You'll be out in the community meeting clients where they are-whether it's in their homes, at a community center, or at a local drop-in space. Your ability to work in the field and adapt to different environments is key!
  • Documentation Pro: You'll be able to manage all the necessary paperwork and compliance requirements without missing a beat. Being organized and detail-oriented will help you stay ahead of the game.
  • Ongoing Training: You're always ready to expand your knowledge. Whether it's through orientation, ongoing leadership training, or certifications, you'll continue to learn and grow in the role.

Bonus Points

  • Multicultural Fluency: Whether you're connecting with someone from across the street or across the world, you're comfortable navigating diverse cultural backgrounds and needs.
  • Driving Enthusiast: If your job requires driving, you'll meet all safety and compliance standards to keep yourself-and your clients-safe on the road.
  • A Love for Lifelong Learning: Stay ahead of the curve by gaining new certifications and expanding your skill set to better serve your clients.

At University Health, we're committed to fostering an environment of growth, inclusivity, and support. You'll work in a dynamic, compassionate atmosphere where your contributions matter, and you'll have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of those you support.
