About the Role:
The Principal Quality Engineer, reporting to the Surface Engineering Manager for Gulf of Mexico (GoM), will support International Operations, primarily focusing on GoM activities with involvement in other Internation Business operations. The primary objective of the role is to implement and oversee quality management processes that minimize the risk of non-conforming products or services affecting operational assets. The role will also ensure that internal processes are robust and aligned with obligations, with effective controls in place and validated to manage identified risks. This position is a JL11
Duties & Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities include:
* Collaborate with Woodside's Global QA/QC team to ensure process changes, procedures, and lessons learned are shared, understood, and applied locally.
* Develop immediate "stop-gap" improvement strategies for GoM operations, including:
o Coordinating the assignment of qualified inspectors for warehouse and inventory locations to perform vendor material and fabrication inspections.
o Partnering with the Surface Engineering Team to assess the criticality and inspection levels of purchase orders, incorporating specific quality and ITP requirements from Woodside standards based on the equipment type.
* Create a Quality Management Plan for GoM aligned with Woodside's "Our Expectations," utilizing existing processes, tools, and methodologies from other Woodside business units (focus on adapting rather than creating new processes).
o Determine the necessary quality personnel to support Operations and Engineering (e.g., TPC in office, TPC in-field, dispatchable/retainer resources).
o Implement process and procedural improvements for International Operations that are consistent with Woodside Global standards, including integration with S4 teams and providing training to local Surface Engineering and Operations staff.
* Oversee governance and assurance of the quality processes for (Shenzi/IO), ensuring alignment with established practices from other business units where applicable.
o Deploy globally developed processes in the appropriate areas of operation.
o Conduct investigations and manage the NCR process across all areas of responsibility.
o Monitor, report, and update key quality performance indicators (KPIs) and remediation strategies.
o Manage quality team members (TPCs, staff, etc.) as required.
* Support the development and implementation of Woodside's QMS for International Operations, including processes for Technical Quality Assurance, Engineering and Procurement assessments, construction and fabrication quality reviews, ITPs, inspection, supplier qualification and oversight, lessons learned, and quality incident reporting and alerts.
* Provide QA/QC awareness training for operations, engineering, maintenance, and turnaround support personnel as needed to embed and promote a Quality Culture.
* Contribute to the development of contractor Quality plans, Quality Risk registers, ITPs, and technical specifications.
* Support quality requirements during the contracting and tendering processes, including evaluating and assessing quality elements, bidder clarifications, and onsite evaluations when necessary.
* Lead or participate in quality incident and failure investigations (RCAs/causal learning).
* Provide visible HSE leadership.
* Track Cost of Poor Quality, ensuring correctives are identified and embedded in sustainable processes.
Skills & Experience:
* Relevant tertiary qualification (Bachelor of Science in Engineering preferred)
* Minimum 15+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry
* Experience with Supplier and Contractor Quality Management Systems.
* Experience working with Engineering, Procurement and Construction Contractors during FEED, Detailed Design, Construction and Completions phases performing ongoing assessments of their QMS and Technical assurance.
* Operating Asset support experience - preferred
* Strong appetite for Continuous Improvement and desire to challenge existing processes/procedures
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and make sound decisions under pressure
* Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, for interacting with diverse stakeholders and conveying information clearly and concisely.
* Experience in the application of industry standards (ASME, API, AWS, etc) and international standards ISO 9001, ISO 29001 and familiar with ISO 14001
* ASQ - CQA (Certified Quality Auditor) preferred,
* Certified Lead Auditor.
* ASQ / CQI Certified Quality inspector.
