Learn more at gdeb.com/careers Metrology Technicians in the Accuracy Control Department are responsible for critical ship and module alignments/measurements using a variety of 3-dimensional and standard optic tooling. These alignments /measurements are used to develop cut line, align and install ships components and pair major modules. The job requires the technician to determine the proper tooling for the job, move the tooling to the job, complete the measurements outlined on configuration controlled data sheets, while working safely with a high degree of accuracy. The technician then turns the data over to Accuracy Control Representatives and works with them to confirm the solutions required. Metrology Technicians routinely interface with Engineering, other Trades and Ship Management. The successful candidate is preferred to have a solid background in surveying/machine shop dimensional inspection, Robotics, proven math skills, computer skills and good communication and interpersonal skills. Applicant will need to become proficient in the use of optical alignment and Total Station equipment (similar to land surveying), establishing ships reference lines and planes, measuring in-process hull circularities, measuring and recording critical ship's dimensions and supporting production by providing profiles and locations of major components. Applicant may need to assist Shipfitters with difficult structural layouts, support the accomplishment of dimensional control requirements (ACCP's) and participate in the QP Continuous Improvement Program as needed.
