PROJECTS ADMINISTRATOR

OFFICE OF PUBLIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION

Grants

Number of Positions: 1

(Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)

Starting Salary: $86,520.00

Successful candidates must pass a drug screen and a background investigation. Persons offered employment must pass all pre-employment exams prior to appointment.

Under the direction of the Director of Grants Management, the Grants Project Administrator will actively and substantially contribute to the management of the entire public safety grants portfolio by gaining technical knowledge of all public safety grant programs and specialist-level knowledge of grants under their responsibility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES



  • Managing grants research specialist staff and directing functions, as required.
  • Researching new opportunities based on needs acquired from strategy, planning, needs assessments and other conversations with the public safety departments.
  • Conducting research to identify and assess sources of available grant opportunities provided through public and private agencies.
  • Preparing summaries and providing recommendations to management on available funding opportunities for new or existing programs and initiatives to support or enhance department operations.
  • Preparing grant applications and writing grant proposals, including the development and writing of the program narrative, budget and budget narrative, and developing timelines for program implementation.
  • Reviewing completed grant applications to ensure proposed programs are in compliance with grantor's funding requirements.
  • Accepting grant awards in accordance with City grant guidelines.
  • Monitoring grant funded programs and working with program staff to monitor their implementation and to ensure compliance with funding source reporting requirements.
  • Evaluating program proposals submitted by agencies for funding and making recommendations for the allocation of funds and the selection of agencies based on established criteria.
  • Communicating with grantors.
  • Attending workshops and seminars to enhance occupational skills and to gather information on available grant opportunities.
  • Attending operational and administrative hearings to enhance their knowledge and understanding of public safety agency needs and operations.
  • Representing the department at public hearings and community meetings regarding grant funded programs and project initiatives.
  • Coordinating with other city departments in the set-up, administration, and implementation of grants.
  • Assisting with audits by compiling required documents.
  • Providing direct support and implementing the full grants management cycle from application to close-out.



Additional duties may be required for this position.

DIVISION: Grants

ADDRESS: 3510 S Michigan Ave

DAYS: Monday through Friday

HOURS: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM THE CAREER SERVICE.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree, plus five (5) years of grant administration, public safety, or project management work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

NOTE: You must provide your transcripts or diploma at time of processing, if applicable.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to complete an interview, which will include a written exercise and/or a skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.
