Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Telecommunications Switchboard Operator to join our team at Trinitas Regional Medical Center. As a switchboard operator, you will be responsible for efficiently managing incoming and outgoing telephone calls, connecting callers to the appropriate departments or individuals, and providing exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff.

Your role will be crucial in maintaining effective communication within the hospital and ensuring smooth operations.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent qualification
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and a clear, professional telephone manner
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations,
  • Proficient computer skills, including knowledge of telecommunications systems and basic office software
  • Ability to multitask and handle a high volume of calls while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and hospital operations

Preferred:

  • Previous experience as a switchboard operator or in a customer service role is preferred.

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Shift working
  • Ability to work flexible shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Part-Time

Essential Functions:

  • Operate the hospital's telecommunications switchboard system, handling incoming and outgoing calls promptly and professionally.
  • Greet callers in a friendly and courteous manner, providing a positive first impression of the hospital.
  • Direct calls to the appropriate departments, clinics, or individuals, ensuring accurate and efficient call routing.
  • Respond to inquiries from patients, visitors, and staff, providing information about hospital services, visiting hours, and general inquiries.
  • Maintain an up-to-date directory of hospital staff, departments, and extensions, ensuring accurate and timely information.
  • Assist in emergency situations by promptly connecting calls to the appropriate emergency response teams.
  • Handle internal paging requests for hospital staff, physicians, and other personnel as required.
  • Monitor and respond to alarms and emergency codes, following established protocols and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other hospital departments to coordinate communication during critical situations or emergencies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations when handling sensitive patient information.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as data entry, updating call logs, and generating reports as needed.
