Robotics Application Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and customer-centric Senior Robotics Application Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will work alongside our Sales team to identify and recommend targeted application solutions that meet customer requirements, ensuring support throughout the entire customer journey. Responsibility for leading in the integration of small to medium scale billable Proof of Concepts for strategic customers. The integration will involve Omron Robots and Omron PLC's (Mobile, Fixed, Collaborative Robots).

This position will serve as the "Robotics Senior Technical Expert" for the regional sales team and will work closely with cross-functional teams including services, system integrators, and end users to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards, thus driving customer satisfaction and loyalty. This is a field-based role with immediate needs in Cincinnati, Ohio, Wisconsin, New England, Amherst and Ontario Canada within driving proximity. The role requires travel to customer sites for solution implementation, technical support, and knowledge-sharing sessions, with an expected travel commitment of approximately 25% to 50%.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • System Design, Installation, & Deployment

    • Develop quotes and scope of work for billable proof of concepts.
    • Mechanical or electrical design responsibilities in AutoDesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD Electrical.
    • Lead the procurement of fabricated mechanical components and electrical panels from 3rd party partners as necessary. (Must have an ability to do small scale fabrication and modification of electrical panels and / or small mechanical fixtures or details necessary in these types of applications.)
    • Lead the on-site installation and commissioning of robotic systems, ensuring they meet project specifications.
    • Perform mechanical and electrical integration of robots with existing automation systems.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to set up robotic work cells, conveyors, sensors, and safety equipment.


  • Hands-on Troubleshooting & Maintenance

    • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and networking issues related to robotic systems.
    • Conduct calibration, tuning, and optimization to ensure peak performance.
    • Provide on-site and remote support for troubleshooting and repairs.


  • Programming & Configuration

    • Develop and modify robot programs (e.g., Omron Sysmac, Omron Mobile Planner, Omron ACE, Omron TM Flow, and Omron Safety, etc.).
    • Integrate PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) systems with robotics.
    • Strong understanding of Database Integration (SQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, etc.).
    • Strong experience with MQTT, REST, Ignition, Aveva, Wonderware.
    • Strong experience with a programming language (Python, C#, Vb.Net).
    • Configure vision systems, force sensors, and other peripherals.


  • Testing & Validation

    • Perform acceptance testing (FAT/SAT) to ensure systems function correctly.
    • Conduct performance evaluations and adjust parameters for maximum efficiency.
    • Document test results and recommend system improvements.


  • Project Management & Collaboration

    • Work closely with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to ensure seamless system integration and resolve issues you might face in this role.
    • Coordinate with clients, vendors, and field technicians to execute projects on time and within budget.
    • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians.


  • Safety & Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with robotic safety standards (ISO 10218, ANSI/RIA R15.06, ANSI/RIA R15.08 OSHA).
    • Implement and participate in risk assessments and safety protocols for robotic work environments with end customers.


  • Training & Documentation

    • Develop user manuals and maintenance procedures for robotic systems.
    • Train operators and maintenance teams on robot operation, troubleshooting, and safety.
    • Function as a mentor to other less experienced Robotics Application Engineers.
    • Function as an SME to our System Integrator Partners in the integration of solutions using our product line.


  • Continuous Improvement & Innovation

    • Stay updated on the latest robotic technologies, sensors, AI-driven automation, and industrial trends.
    • Suggest improvements for system performance, cycle times, and efficiency.
    • Provide technical support to customers and System Integrators escalating requests through proper channels.




Education/Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, mechatronic engineering or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of experience in industrial automation with deep technical expertise in application solutions and hands-on integration.
  • Proven experience in robotics engineering or systems integration and deployment, with a strong focus on customer needs, customer value generation and technical support.
  • Must have proven hands-on experience in the integration of similar technologies and components.
  • Strong technical background with expertise in mechanical, electrical, software, or systems engineering.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with customers, internal teams, and any other stakeholder.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and exceeding customer expectations.
  • To conform with U.S. export control regulations, applicant should be eligible for any required authorization from the U.S. Government.



Level: Senior based on years of experience and proven hands-on experience.

The annual salary range for this role is $100,000-130,000 a year, however, base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. This position is also eligible for an annual performance-based bonus program. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
