Fellow, Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security Georgetown University: Main Campus: Walsh School of Foreign Service Location: Washington, DC Open Date: Jan 30, 2025 Deadline: Description The Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS) is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Research Fellow to lead our WPS Index and support our growing research portfolio. Reporting to the Director of Research, the Research Fellow will be responsible for conducting rigorous quantitative and qualitative research analysis for a variety of GIWPS research outputs. Additionally, the Research Fellow will play a leading role in disseminating research results, engaging with the press, and representing GIWPS at high-level speaking engagements at multilateral, policy, and academic institutions. The ideal candidate will have training in quantitative methods, broad substantive expertise on Women, Peace, and Security, and significant project management experience. The ability to produce policy-oriented analysis and to write for a policy audience is essential. GIWPS is a fast-paced research institution. The Research Fellow must be organized, manage time efficiently, meet multiple deadlines, and produce work on a tight turnaround. The Research Fellow must be a self-starter who can work well independently and as part of a small team. Duties and responsibilities of the Research Fellow include, but are not limited to: Research, Analysis, and Writing Conduct rigorous quantitative and qualitative research analysis to support research projects, including the WPS Index. Oversee the statistical computation of the WPS Index and other research projects, including data compilation, normalization, and aggregation. Identify major trends and patterns from the WPS Index estimates by region, indicator, and other dimensions; perform this type of analysis for other projects as needed. Translate research findings into compelling narratives and identify relevant policy implications to advance the status of women and the WPS Agenda broadly. Plan and design data visualization, including complex maps and graphics displaying quantitative research results, including for the WPS Index. Author a 50+ page report showcasing WPS Index results and highlighting other research on issues facing women to contextualize findings; envision and produce additional WPS Index-related publications; author and support other GIWPS publications as assigned. Project and Relationship Management Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including WPS Index partners. Recruit, hire, onboard, and supervise a team of student research assistants and external consultants to support WPS Index production; monitor their progress, tasks, and quality of work. Develop and enforce a project timeline including multiple distinct workstreams carried about by student assistants, research partners, and external consultants. Integrate multiple rounds of peer review feedback on the WPS Index report to ensure high standards of research quality and rigor. Coordinate with professional copy editors and designers in the publication of the main report, accompanying publications, and interactive website platform. Consult on the WPS Index webpage design and construction of an interactive website platform to showcase results. Design a WPS Index launch and dissemination strategy involving social media, press, and outreach to key stakeholders. External Stakeholder Engagement Coordinate a high-level launch event at the United Nations in September/October 2025 involving permanent representatives and high-level WPS partners. Liaise with external partners and stakeholders across academic, government, and policy institutions to increase the reach and utility of the WPS Index and other research projects. Collaborate with GIWPS leadership to fundraise and strengthen donor relations for the WPS Index portfolio and other projects as needed. Serve as GIWPS WPS Index expert and point of contact for external stakeholder engagement/queries related to the WPS Index; engage with members of the press and publication platforms to disseminate research findings and raise the profile of the WPS Index. Inform Policy and Practice Work with the Director of Research to identify critical gaps in knowledge and opportunities to leverage the WPS Index and other GIWPS research to strengthen WPS policy and practice. Produce policy briefs, op-eds, blogs, and other publications, including serving as lead author of the biennial WPS Index report. Collaborate with the Communications Team on strategic communications to amplify the WPS Index and other GIWPS research in academic, policy, and practitioner communities. Represent the Institute in key stakeholder convenings and briefings of policymakers on specific policy-relevant insights generated through assigned research activities, including the WPS Index. Qualifications Master's Degree (Ph.D. preferred) in political science, international relations, international development, gender studies, peacebuilding, conflict resolution, anthropology, sociology, or related field. 3 years of relevant professional experience, including significant project management experience. Proven track record of conducting and communicating policy-relevant research. Demonstrated ability to write persuasively for a policy audience. Substantive expertise related to Women, Peace and Security issues. Quantitative research methods training is required; qualitative methods training is desirable. Demonstrated experience working on projects like the WPS Index is highly desirable. Previous experience supervising junior colleagues and/or students is desirable. Ability to conduct a gender analysis is essential. The successful applicant will be hired as a Georgetown University Research Fellow, which is a full-time non-tenure line faculty position with benefits. The initial contract will be for one year. Future years are subject to available resources. The projected base salary range is $75,000 - $85,000. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
