Position Description

The Enterprise Programmer Analyst II's role is to develop, test, analyze, and maintain software applications in support of business requirements. This includes writing, coding, testing, and analyzing software programs and applications. The Programmer Analyst II will also research, design, document, and modify software specifications throughout the production life cycle.

About the Department and/or College

Texas Tech University System has adopted a collaborative governance model that aligns IT with the overall mission and goals of the institutions. The Office of the TTU System Chief Information Officer works jointly with the CIOs from Texas Tech University, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, Angelo State University, and Midwestern State University and chairs the CIO Council. The CIOs work collaboratively through the CIO Council to coordinate IT direction, strategic plans, risk assessments and policies for the Texas Tech entities as well as IT related compliance and reporting for the state of Texas.

The TTU System Information Technology Division works with the Texas Tech community to identify and provide solutions needed to service our students, faculty and staff. In collaboration with our constituents and the private sector, the Information Technology Division has deployed a robust portfolio of IT solutions and services that support the academic, research, and service mission of the institutions.

Major/Essential Functions


  • With close supervision by management and/or project leads: Develops programming code defined in project plans to meet design specifications, customer requirements, and/or applies vendor supplied upgrades.
  • Completes application modifications to enhance functionality, adapt to technology changes, and to correct application errors.
  • Adheres to all appropriate Institutional policies (including IT Ops) and other relevant internal departmental policies.
  • With close supervision, develop and modify programming code using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AngularJS, .Net, Groovy, REST API, SQL, Oracle, (or similar technologies) defined in project plans.
  • Assists in performing system analysis, develop and review queries and implement integration between internal systems.
  • Ability to: exercise judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities; plan and organize effectively, prioritize goals, use time efficiently, and stay on task; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective work relationships. Basic analytical skills, including process description, logic, problem diagnostics, and problem solving. Understanding of programming languages, syntax structures, and data management techniques. Familiarity with application and database design and development concepts and standards. Training in computer programming through education or experience. Specific technical skills, as appropriate to the area and/or team.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, MIS, IT, or other related area plus one year related full-time paid experience OR Master's degree in computer science, MIS, IT or other related area.
