Performs general carpentry work, including constructing, remodeling, and/or repairing buildings, additions, partitions, wood furniture, and fixtures.

Job Description

Wake Forest Facilities and Campus Services offers a Monday through Friday work schedule with no travel and generous paid time off (PTO), benefits, and retirement plans. Tools, uniforms, and work shoes are provided.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs general carpentry work in the construction, repair, remodeling, and renovation of floors, roofs, ceilings, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, casings, screens, wood trim, and fixtures.

  • Operates a variety of carpenter's hand tools, power tools, and standard measuring instruments.

  • Makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, and selects material needed in accordance with general instructions.

  • Saws, planes, drills, or mortises lumber for doors, cabinets, shelves, molding, furniture, frames, signs, related objects; cuts mortise for locks and hinges; hangs doors.

  • Installs glass in windows, doors, and partitions; installs and replaces ceiling tile.

  • Sets up and removes special equipment and staging for scheduled and special events connected with Wake Forest University as needed.

  • May perform minor tasks involving pouring concrete and laying brick or concrete blocks.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • High school graduate plus one to three years repair and maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Skills in carpentry, building repair, and/or finish plaster and concrete.

  • Skills in concrete installation and repair.

  • Masonry repair and installation skills.

  • Ability to understand and follow general instructions related to carpentry work.

  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.

  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.

Accountabilities:

Responsible for own work only.

Physical Requirements:

  • Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Climbing, Balancing, Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Crawling, Reaching, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Fingering, Grasping, and Repetitive Motions.

  • Visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach; performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Activities occur both inside and outside, subject to both environmental conditions. Worker are subject to noise, vibrations, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils.
