Job Summary

The Manager of Clinical Engineering is responsible for managing the technical and administrative operations through organizing and delegating to team to ensure equipment and technology of a clinical specialty are configured, maintained, and performing to standards. Deploys new technology and implements changes to equipment management workflows and operational processes to ensure the clinical specialty technology and systems is optimally configured to support patient care and meets all applicable codes and regulations. Under the direction of the Director and along with the Clinical Engineering leadership team, the Manager will lead and motivate employees. The Manager will recruit, develop, Assess, and acquire training and career development for Biomedical Equipment Technicians and mentor the Clinical Engineering supervisors by defining needs through strengths and assessments and incorporating the principles of Relational and Therapeutic Practices. Spends the majority of the time (50% or more) achieving organizational objectives through the coordinated achievements of subordinate staff. Establishes departmental goals and objectives and functions with autonomy. Manages the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources in compliance with departmental and organizational goals and objectives. Ensures subordinate supervisors and professionals adhere to defined internal controls. Manages systems and procedures to protect departmental assets. CE Manager 1 will play a crucial role in ensuring our organization adheres to regulatory standards while maintaining high standards of patient care and patient safety.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in a position-related field and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Extensive broad-based hospital experience in Clinical Engineering, or other relevant area, to include operations leadership capacity.
  • Leadership experience directing and managing clinical engineering or biomedical equipment operations, ideally for an academic medical center, integrated healthcare delivery system, or large hospital.
  • Experience in utilizing a Computerized Management Maintenance System (CMMS) to manage work orders and materials, run operational reports, and track preventative and corrective maintenance activity.
  • Advanced user of internal clinical engineering technology and systems.
  • Knowledge of available information technology software for clinical specialty area.
  • Advanced skill developing and implementing training programs that meet regulatory health and safety requirements. As well as medical equipment service training and advancing "in-house" Biomedical Equipment and clinical engineering departments service capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and written, with the skill to convey complex information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences and to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Advanced knowledge and skill to develop and implement process improvement strategies and quality improvement programs. Knowledge of biomedical services principles, processes, practices, and technologies and how these apply in a clinical environment to support a complex healthcare delivery system.
  • Advanced knowledge of principles and practices of organization, management, budgeting, finance, human resources, and project management necessary to plan, coordinate, and direct diverse activities for the organization. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Department Overview

The Clinical Engineering Department provides a wide scope of services, including medical equipment planning, pre-purchase product evaluation, integration with IT systems, installation, and repair and maintenance services to the UC Davis Health (UCDH), including its primary care network (PCN) clinics, and Shriners Hospital for Children, Northern California. In addition to repairing and maintaining most medical devices, we provide services to the following specialty areas: medical imaging, radiation therapy, respiratory therapy, dialysis, anesthesiology, operating room, IT integration with medical devices, and ICU equipment.

The Clinical Engineering Operations Manager at UC Davis Health is responsible for providing strong leadership and oversight to all functions within the clinical engineering department. They recommend innovative approaches to service delivery, oversee daily operations, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. This role involves managing a biomedical equipment management program, including maintenance, repair, and integration of medical equipment. The Manager supervises technical personnel, coordinates departmental processes, and develops operational budgets. They are also responsible for managing multiple equipment-related projects, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, and promoting staff development and competency. The Clinical Engineering Operations Manager plays a crucial role in maintaining patient safety, operational efficiency, and high-quality service delivery within the healthcare system. Project Management oversight and support. Development and advancement of CMMS and medical equipment database and lifecycle management.
